Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting

Boston (Remote)

Here at Hometap, we’re collaborative, passionate, and always ready to roll up our sleeves to create solutions that help people get more out of homeownership — and out of life. Our first product, a home equity investment, gives homeowners the opportunity to quickly access the equity they’ve built in their home to pay for what’s most important to them, from handling debt to finally making much-needed renovations, without taking on debt.

We work hard, and have some fun along the way, too. You don’t have to take our word for it: The Boston Globe and Forbes have recognized us as a great place to work, and we’ve been honored for our commitment to innovation in the fintech space by Inc., HousingWire, and more!

In case you need any more convincing, we also provide competitive compensation, healthcare coverage, unlimited PTO, a generous share package, and a strong culture with plenty of opportunities for team-building and camaraderie.

Interested in joining us on our mission to make homeownership less stressful and more accessible? We’d love to talk.

Who you are:

We are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to lead Hometap’s Operating Company (Opco) accounting. Opco accounting is part of the Finance department’s Operational Finance team and reports to the SVP of Finance.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have strong experience leading and managing all of a company’s accounting, financial reporting, and related processes,  can balance working in a fast-paced environment with maintaining quality, and are eager to work cross-functionally to help business partners better and more quickly utilize financial reporting. The Senior Accounting Manager will work directly with the Strategic Finance team in support of planning and budgeting processes, and will also work with our Fund Accounting and Capital Market Operations teams to ensure asset vehicles are managed correctly.

What you'll do:

  • Manage Opco Accounting Staff: Manage and develop the staff dedicated to Opco accounting.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and enhance accounting processes and procedures to optimize efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Revenue / AR: Complete revenue recognition calculations and invoice counterparties, as well as follow up to ensure payment.
  • AP: Manage Hometap’s AP system and ensure timely processing of vendor payments in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Accounting: All accounting and bookkeeping related to Opco.
  • Technical Accounting: Identify technical accounting issues and lead to resolution via independent research or engagement of third parties, in consultation with SVP Finance.
  • Financial Reporting: Lead and be responsible for the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of appropriate internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, counterparty agreements, and safeguard company assets.
  • ERP: Administer the ERP system, including subsidiaries, the chart of accounts/general ledger, user permissions, features, and settings, etc.
  • Audit Support: Lead Opco audit and independently resolve the majority of open items, escalating to SVP Finance when appropriate.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist with tax-related matters, including the preparation of tax income estimates, estimated payments, filings, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the finance team, senior management, and cross-functional departments to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices, and share knowledge with the finance team.

What you bring:

  • 7+ years of corporate accounting experience. Experience with management company accounting is viewed favorably.
  • At least 1 year of people management experience, including performance management and professional development of accounting team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset to address challenges and drive process improvements.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in financial software and systems, including ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Netsuite experience, including system implementation, is a major plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
