Revenue Accounting Manager

Honeycomb is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Revenue Accounting Manager to join our Finance team. The Revenue Accounting Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our revenue recognition processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent communication skills, and drive for continuous improvement and scalability. Our team is small, but mighty and often praised for our impact and efficiency despite our size. We have grown from a team of three to a team of ten in just three years and expect continued growth in the following years.
What You’ll Do:
- Own key areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process—including revenue and commissions accounting—by preparing journal entries, performing key account reconciliations, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP
- Maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the Zuora Revenue system
- Review standard and non-standard contracts to determine the appropriate revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP, ensuring the company is compliant with revenue recognition principles under ASC 606
- Work cross functionally within the organization to drive automation efforts to streamline accounting operations related to revenue accounting and improve the quality of monthly, quarterly, and annual closes
- Assist in the order to cash process, reviewing submitted sales orders in CPQ to ensure proper revenue recognition and compliance
- Work directly with our sales, customer success, and revenue operations team to obtain needed data and reporting to support monthly revenue entries
- Act as point of contact in all sales tax and VAT tax related issues, including nexus research, registering in new jurisdictions, and determining taxability for new products
- Ability to provide clear concise answers related to accounting variances and fluctuations to management, FP&A and other internal stakeholders
- Play a key role throughout the company audit, preparing & reviewing revenue and commission related schedules for external auditors
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and lead the implementation of process improvements to standardize and streamline accounting workflows
- Support IPO readiness initiatives by assisting with the implementation of public company processes and enhancing internal controls
- Perform SSP analysis utilizing historical sales data and pricing variability assessments to support revenue allocation across software subscriptions, services, and additional products
- Ad hoc initiatives and projects, including system implementations, automation, and ad-hoc financial analyses
What You’ll Bring:
- BS in Finance or Accounting
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Deep expertise of GAAP, ASC 606 revenue recognition, ASC 340, and other authoritative guidance
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work on multiple tasks at once
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Results focused while ensuring weekly/monthly billing deadlines are met
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, specifically Excel
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization
- Revenue recognition experience with consumption-based models including usage tracking
- Systems experience with Zuora, Netsuite, Avalara, Stripe, and Salesforce
Pluses, but not required
- CPA with Big 4 experience
- Experience in SaaS and/or a start up environment
- Experience with multi-subsidiaries and global accounting
- Systems implementation project management
Base Salary based on level of experience
$140,000 - $160,000 USD
