As a Sr. Data Scientist, you will support the business in the following ways:
- Partner closely with business stakeholders from safety, marketing, sales, product, customer success and/or finance to understand and identify key opportunities to improve the product, enhance revenue, or reduce costs.
- Combine DS strategies, programming expertise, and theoretical understanding of techniques to deliver predictive and prescriptive analytic solutions.
- Perform in-depth statistical analyses to understand and predict complex market behaviors
- Utilize modern, open-source data scientific/AI workflows (SQL, R/Python, Github, AWS, Snowflake) to create highly accurate or explainable models
- Scope, explore, specify, test, deploy and observe accurate and stable models into production environments and own them once in production.
- Demonstrate a product mindset to deliver components that can be deployed into existing products or converted into stand-alone data products
- Communicate results and model specifications to appropriate stakeholders.
- Mentor, train, and assist data professionals who are engaged with data science-related work.
Who You Are
You are an experienced Data Scientist who is excited about solving problems with data and inspired by our mission to create opportunity through mobility and powerfully impact kids’ lives. You are adept at translating a core business challenge into an advanced analytic strategy to deliver rapid, high-impact business value. You are curious, creative, experimental, and continually learning. You bring the following skills and/or experiences:
- 5+ years of post-graduate, hands-on experience building and deploying production quality predictive, prescriptive, or generative models, ideally in a fast-moving technology company
- Strong data acquisition skills using SQL in modern technical stacks (PostGres, AWS, Snowflake)
- 5+ years of post-graduate experience working with open source data science toolkits including Python (numpy, pandas, scikit, Polars, PySpark) or R (Tidyverse/Tidymodels) including the use of reproducible virtual environments, library management tools, and version control using Git/Github. Strong preference for candidates who can capably translate between Python and R.
- 3+ years experience deploying models to production environments through APIs, or batch processes
- 3+ years experience using at least TWO of the following DS methods:
- Supervised and Unsupervised ML (regression, classification, etc.)
- Econometric modeling (e.g. time-to-event/survival analysis, ARIMA/SARIMA)
- Reinforcement learning (e.g. multi-arm bandits for price or intervention optimization)
- Operations research (e.g. combinatorial optimization/ traveling salesman, linear programming)
- Excellent visualization communication skills along with demonstrated experience documenting workflows with reproducible, literate programming (Quarto preferred).
- Collaborative problem-solving skills with an entrepreneurial attitude and results-oriented mind set

HopSkipDrive is proud to operate as a drug-free workplace. HopSkipDrive is also committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role in Los Angeles, CA is $155,000 - $175,000. This position is remote and, as such, compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by several factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skill set, certifications, and specific work location. The total compensation package for this role also includes equity stock options.
