Mgr Finance & Reporting
Job Title: Manager, Tax
Location: Springfield, IL (Hybrid)
Position Summary
Leads the organization’s indirect tax function, including sales/use tax, premium tax, and IRS/state information reporting (e.g., Forms W-2, 1099 series). Ensures compliance with multi-state and federal requirements while driving process improvements, automation, and operational efficiency. Partners cross-functionally to provide guidance on tax implications of transactions, reporting obligations, and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end information reporting processes, including W-2s, 1099-R, and other 1099 filings, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with IRS and state requirements.
- Oversee indirect tax compliance, including sales/use, premium, unclaimed property and other transaction-based taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements across indirect tax and information reporting functions to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Manage preparation and review of tax filings and information returns, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Monitor and interpret changes in tax laws and reporting requirements; assess business impact and implement necessary updates.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over tax and reporting processes, including SOX-related controls where applicable.
- Partner with finance, HR, legal, and operations teams to ensure accurate data capture and reporting for tax and information reporting purposes.
- Lead tax and information reporting audits and examinations, coordinating responses with auditors and regulatory authorities.
- Support tax planning strategies and provide guidance on reporting implications of new products, transactions, and business initiatives.
- Lead, develop, and manage tax staff and/or external vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 6–10 years of experience.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- CPA preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IRS and multi-state information reporting requirements, as well as indirect tax regulations.
Salary: $89,800.00 - $125,500.00
- Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
