Sr Project Manager - P&C Business Area
Horace Mann is seeking a collaborative and results-oriented Senior Project Manager within the P&C project management office to lead medium to large-scale business and technology initiatives that support our strategic objectives. In this role, you'll manage projects from initiation through implementation, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that create business value while ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational goals.
The ideal candidate is an experienced project management professional with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys guiding teams through complex initiatives.
What You'll Do
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead multiple medium to large projects from planning through successful implementation.
- Own PLC processes from conception to closure.
- Define and clarify project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
- Assist with the creation of business cases and project documentation.
- Monitor project progress and proactively manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
Risk & Issue Management
- Identify, document, and manage project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
- Develop mitigation strategies and escalate concerns appropriately to maintain project momentum.
- Drive issue resolution by partnering with stakeholders and project teams.
Leadership & Team Coordination
- Determine project team structure and define team roles and responsibilities.
- Coach and mentor the organization to facilitate adoption and maturity of Agile and/or Waterfall practices within the PMO defined processes.
- Shilled in predicting project outcomes and plan resources effectively to meet objectives.
- Ensure team maintains focus on quality and continuous delivery of business value.
- Take responsibility for successful product delivery with strong partnership with the Business and IT sponsors.
- Coordinate activities across multiple departments and business functions.
- Provide direction, motivate team members, and foster collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assign work and help ensure deliverables are completed according to plan.
Stakeholder Communication
- Effective and clear communication with both business and technical resources, as well as throughout various levels in the organization.
- Must possess the ability to explain intricate and complicated concepts and ideas in a simplified manner.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project sponsors, stakeholders, and business leaders.
- Prepare and deliver project updates, executive summaries, and steering committee presentations.
- Communicate project status, milestones, risks, and decisions to senior leadership and project teams.
- Build strong relationships that promote transparency, trust, and successful project outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 4–8 years of project management experience, successfully leading medium to large-scale initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while operating with limited supervision.
- Leadership skills (ability to influence)
- Highly self-motivated and directed. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certification or coursework in Project Management (e.g., PMP) preferred.
- Experience managing technology-related projects or working within an IT environment.
Additional Information
- Normal office environment.
- Periodic travel may be required.
- Ongoing education in Project and Program Management is encouraged and supported.
Salary Range:
$89,800.00 - $125,500.00 annually
Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
