In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will design components and systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements
The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: senior engineer, staff engineer, principal engineer or higher.
Required Qualifications and Abilities:
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor's, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in C++ is a must; Rust is a plus.
- Operating Systems: Expert knowledge of Linux, including kernel-level understanding and system-level programming.
- Robotics Platforms: Familiarity with platforms like ROS, ROS 2, or similar.
- Experience:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in C++ software development.
- Proven track record in designing, implementing, and optimizing product-level software in Linux environments.
- In-depth experience with multiprocessing and multithreading in large-scale, distributed safe-critical systems.
- Prior experience working in robotics, automation, or medical device development is a plus.
- Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
- Strong knowledge of hardware-software interfaces, embedded software development, and system communication protocols.
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and low-latency software development.
- Familiarity with debugging tools and techniques for hardware/software integration.
- Familiarity with software and system architecture formality like UML or SysML.
- Proficiency with tools like Git/JIRA/Confluence and platforms like GitHub.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including software engineers, electrical/mechanical engineers, and product managers.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and adapt to new challenges.
- Other Requirements:
- Comfortable working in a lab or workshop environment alongside surgical robotic systems.
- Ability to work on-site for hands-on software-hardware integration.
