In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will design components and systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements
The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: senior engineer, staff engineer, principal engineer or higher.
Required Qualifications and Abilities:
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in languages like JavaScript, Python, C++, or others relevant to the stack.
- Knowledge of database technologies, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
- Operating Systems: Proficiency in working with Linux OS is a must.
- Familiarity with platforms like ROS, ROS 2, or similar, is a plus.
- Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in software development, with solid understanding of SDLC. Experience in the medical device or surgical robotics industry is a plus.
- Experience with backend frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Django) and/or frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular).
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with medical image data management (e.g., DICOM) is a plus.
- Experience with Qt is a plus.
- Knowledge:
- Knowledge of robotics communication protocols and middleware.
- Deep understanding of real-time systems.
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery/continuous deployment (CI/CD) using tools like Jenkins.
- Familiarity with software and system architecture formality like UML or SysML.
- Proficiency with tools like Git/JIRA/Confluence and platforms like GitHub.
- Familiarity with IEC 62304, TIR57, TIR97, is a plus.
- Knowledge of cyber security is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, and product managers.
- Other Requirements:
- Comfortable working in a lab or workshop environment alongside surgical robotic systems.

- Design, implement, and optimize backend components of our surgical robotics software. Examples include data logging, local / remote database management.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers and frontend software engineers.

- Develop and maintain APIs and services that interface with robotic hardware, ensuring real-time and efficient communication.
- Understand the surgical process and robotic functionalities to ensure the software complements the hardware efficiently.
- Collaborate with robotics and AI software engineers on developing scalable and robust databases, local and remote.
