- Passion for Creativity and Innovation: We are driven by new ideas and aim to push the boundaries of what's possible
- Teamwork and Camaraderie: We achieve our best when we collaborate and work together
- Welcoming of Critical Opinion: We are enriched by constructive criticism and support the best ideas
- Personal Accountability: We honor our commitments and take responsibility for our actions
Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. offers:
- An opportunity to build autonomous surgical robotic systems driven by image guidance and AI technology for the future of affordable, high-quality healthcare.
- The opportunity to work alongside clinicians, engineers, and global leaders in cutting-edge AI, imaging, and robotics technology.
- Competitive compensation and an excellent company-paid benefits package.
We are seeking a highly experienced Qt6/C++ engineer to lead the front-end development of cutting-edge imaging/robotics systems. This role requires deep architectural expertise in Qt6, fluency in modern C++, and a strong track record of building performant, scalable, and elegant user interfaces for real-time, high-throughput applications.
As a senior member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the UI/UX and software architecture that powers our next-generation robotic eye surgery platforms. You will collaborate closely with backend developers, imaging scientists, and hardware engineers to deliver robust and high-performance desktop software.
Responsibilities
- Frontend SW design & Implementation:
- Design and develop a modular, scalable, and maintainable frontend application framework using Qt6 and C++.
- Define UI interaction models that handle complex datasets, streaming image feeds, and multi-panel visualization with fluid responsiveness.
- Performance Engineering:
- Optimize rendering pipelines and UI responsiveness for real-time data acquisition and visualization workflows.
- Leverage GPU acceleration and multithreading to ensure consistent low-latency interaction with large images and video streams.
- Cross-Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with backend engineers to define and evolve application interfaces.
- Coordinate with imaging scientists and hardware engineers to ensure seamless and robust software-hardware integration.
- Reliability and Maintainability:
- Implement and maintain robust testing infrastructure, including unit tests, UI regression tests, and continuous integration systems.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce best practices in software design, documentation, and maintainability.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor's, Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Expertise:
- Qt Expert: 5+ years of deep Qt based GUI design workflow experience, particularly, Adobe XD, Qt6, QtQuick with QML, QtStudio and C++ tool chain.
- C++ Mastery: 5+ years of experience with modern C++ (C++17 or newer) in production environments; strong grasp of advanced C++ concepts such as RAII, move semantics, metaprogramming, and concurrency.
- Performance-Critical UIs: Proven track record of building responsive, high-performance GUIs for data- or image-intensive applications (e.g., medical imaging, CAD/CAM, instrumentation software).
- Rendering & Visualization: Expertise in high-resolution image rendering, GPU acceleration OpenGL/RHI, and efficient real-time data visualization.
- Cross-Platform Development: Strong experience with CMake, Linux, and deployment across multiple platforms.
- Familiar with programming in Python for testing automation.
- Systems Integration:
- Deep understanding of frontend-backend integration in low-latency, high-bandwidth systems.
- Comfortable interfacing with custom hardware, image acquisition pipelines, and sensor drivers.
- Tools & Methodologies:
- Proficient in unit testing, automated UI testing, and performance benchmarking.
- Experienced with version control (Git), issue tracking (JIRA), and CI/CD pipelines for desktop applications.
- Familiar with profiling tools (Valgrind, perf, Qt Creator Analyzer) for identifying UI bottlenecks and memory issues.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including software engineers, electrical/mechanical engineers, and product managers.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and adapt to new challenges.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work on-site to support tight integration with hardware teams and physical imaging setups.
- Ability to operate in an agile, R&D-focused engineering environment where both rigor and adaptability are valued.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-tech startup that is poised to revolutionize surgical robotics in ophthalmology.
