About The Role
We are looking for a curious, resourceful software engineer to rapidly prototype AI agent concepts and explore how emerging technologies can create value across HP’s computing ecosystem. As part of the PS Engineering, Integrated Solutions & Ecosystem team, you will join a small incubation team working with open-source tools and early partner technologies. You will build working proofs of concept in approximately three- to four-week cycles, evaluate their value, and transfer promising ideas to production engineering teams.
This is a hands-on, exploratory role for someone who enjoys building independently, testing assumptions, and moving quickly to the next opportunity when a concept does not demonstrate sufficient value.
What You Might Do
-
Explore emerging AI agent frameworks, open-source projects, and partner technologies to identify opportunities for experimentation.
-
Build working prototypes that connect AI agents with PCs, edge devices, and distributed computing environments.
-
Develop experiments involving workload offloading, AI inference, device routing, or shared computing resources.
-
Use Python, Linux, APIs, and structured data to integrate components and test workflows.
-
Evaluate prototype behavior, resource utilization, technical feasibility, and potential customer value.
-
Communicate findings, trade-offs, and recommendations to engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
-
Document promising concepts and transfer code, findings, and technical requirements to production engineering teams.
-
Apply appropriate security, policy, and isolation controls to experimental environments.
Essential Qualifications
-
Demonstrated ability to build AI agents, working prototypes, or experimental software through professional work, independent projects, or open-source contributions.
-
Strong Python programming skills and practical experience developing in Linux environments.
-
Working knowledge of JSON, APIs, and integrating software components.
-
Familiarity with open-source tools and the ability to evaluate and adapt unfamiliar technologies quickly.
-
Some understanding of PC architecture and how software interacts with compute, memory, and connected devices.
-
Ability to independently scope experiments, assess results, and explain technical findings and potential value.
-
Curiosity, initiative, and comfort working through ambiguity in a fast-moving team.
-
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience. Candidates with approximately 2–4 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply; demonstrated building ability matters more than years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Meaningful GitHub activity, open-source contributions, or a portfolio of independently built projects.
-
Experience with agentic frameworks, device-routing agents, PC-based AI workloads, or memory-related projects.
-
Familiarity with tools and approaches such as llama.cpp, vLLM, LangChain, or RAG.
-
Experience with distributed computing, edge devices, workload orchestration, or network offloading.
-
Additional experience with Windows, C++, containerization, or application and network security.
