About The Role

HP IQ's Wireless Automation and Test team is responsible for validating and characterizing wireless subsystems across all HP IQ products and services. This role focuses on ensuring that wireless applications communicate properly with underlying wireless subsystems, conducting quality assurance on wireless software, and establishing testing and characterization platforms for current products and next-generation systems. As a Wireless Automation and Test Engineering Intern, you will work at the intersection of hardware, software, and data analytics, directly contributing to product validation and shipping readiness.

What You Might Do

Depending on your background and interests, you may pursue work across three technical layers:

  • Data Analytics: You will develop automated processes to compile and clean up test data from multiple test environments, develop a portal where the data can be represented clearly and on-demand, formulate mathematical models that flag performance changes and trends , and support data-driven analysis of wireless performance.
  • Software: You will support software testing by analyzing logs, validating system decisions, identifying timing issues between networking events, validating full-stack protocol behavior, and helping ensure wireless software components communicate correctly. You may also work with networking protocols such as HTTP and TCP/IP, and contribute to log parsing automation.
  • Hardware : You will use lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and network analyzers to measure wireless hardware performance, characterize RF behavior, and help automate measurements through scripting.

Essential Qualifications

  • Must be a current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in at least one of the following: wireless fundamentals and RF concepts, networking protocols (HTTP, TCP/IP), or statistical analysis and data science. Demonstrated ability to debug systems, analyze data, or troubleshoot problems in academic or hobby projects.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment and willingness to learn specialized wireless testing tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members and adjust work priorities when team needs shift.
  • Self-directed learner capable of working independently on defined tasks while seeking help appropriately from team members.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, or power meters.
  • Experience with low-level scripting or basic automation (Python, Bash, Powershell, or similar languages) for test automation or data processing.
  • Familiarity with network protocol standards and troubleshooting networking issues. Previous experience parsing or analyzing log files from complex systems.
  • Exposure to agentic systems, autonomous agents, or machine learning applications in testing or validation contexts.
  • Experience in product validation, quality assurance, or testing in hardware or embedded systems environments.

Internship Dates: May/June – August/September (exact start and end dates will depend on candidate availability).

Compensation & Benefits (Full-Time Employees)
