Assistant Managing Clerk
Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, a leading litigation boutique in New York, is seeking an Assistant Managing Clerk to join our dynamic litigation practice. This role is central to ensuring the firm’s filings, calendars, and court-related operations run with precision and efficiency. The Assistant Managing Clerk will work closely with the Managing Clerk to facilitate timely compliant filings, while supporting attorneys and staff across a wide range of complex litigation matters.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Managing Clerk on daily filings and assignments.
- Review documents before service and filing to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local court rules, as well as judges’ individual practices.
- Handle e-filing and service of documents in multiple jurisdictions.
- Research court rules, calculate deadlines, and enter them into CourtAlert Case Management.
- Synchronize deadlines and events to attorneys’ Outlook calendars.
- Arrange and monitor reliable, cost-effective service of process.
- Track court dockets (via CM/ECF and other platforms) for decisions, opinions, and developments in pending matters.
- Serve as a resource for attorneys and staff on state and federal rules, procedures, and practices.
- Liaise with court personnel and assist with court admissions and renewals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience in a law firm or judicial setting (or equivalent).
- Fully versed with CPLR, FRCP, and local court rules that trigger deadlines.
- Proficiency with docketing and case management software (e.g., CourtAlert, CompuLaw, or equivalent) and interest in exploring evolving technology offerings for streamlining and improving processes within the Managing Clerk’s Office.
- Skilled in searching and retrieving information from PACER, Bloomberg, Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, CourtAlert, and other court-related databases.
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, as appropriate. We are willing to discuss alternative normal working hours (e.g., 12pm to 8pm).
Salary Range: $80,000 – $120,000 (commensurate with experience)
