GTM Strategist (Fractional)

Chicago

Location: US or Canada

Type: Independent Contractor

**A note before you read further**

The world is changing fast, and so is this role. We can't fully tell you what this job looks like in six months. That's true of every role at Human Agency right now. What we need from you, no matter what: accountability, curiosity, and a builder-first mindset. If that sounds exciting, keep reading. If it sounds intimidating but you're still interested, let's talk. If none of that sounds like you, that's okay. This probably isn't your spot.

About Human Agency

We're scaling rapidly and have a growing pipeline of opportunities that demand exceptional talent across disciplines. Our mission is to bring on individuals, from creative producers to technical experts to entrepreneurial leaders, who can help us realize this next chapter of growth.

We are a company of doers. Leaders roll up their sleeves, teams work flat, and everyone contributes to what ships. Titles don't insulate us from feedback or basics. We invite critique, learn quickly, and keep raising the bar. The best ideas win here, no matter where they come from, because clients trust us to deliver the strongest outcomes every time.

Our clients' missions, products, and bottom lines are sacred. We immerse ourselves in their world, becoming stewards of their goals and partners in solving big problems. Every product, strategy, or asset we create must be both beautiful and functional; practical, usable, and designed for real-world impact.

Humans are our most valuable resource, and we only grow by hiring people who push us forward. Across strategy, engineering, design, data, and operations, we seek out teammates who raise the bar and make us better. Always hire up, never down.

We partner with organizations of all sizes to explore, design, and implement AI strategies that are secure, scalable, and human-centered. We believe AI should amplify human potential, not replace it, and we build with that conviction in every engagement. From advisory and tooling to implementation and education, we meet clients where they are and help them integrate AI in ways that align with their mission and values. Our goal is to empower teams to work smarter, move faster, and unlock new possibilities through thoughtful, responsible innovation.

And through it all, we lead with purpose, love, and adventure. We do meaningful work with people we care about, and we make the ride an adventure worth taking. Because at Human Agency, who we are and how we work are one and the same.

The Opportunity

Human Agency is an AI-first consultancy and venture organization. We work with clients who are serious about growth, and we’re bringing on a fractional GTM Strategist to own the full arc: figure out who a client should be selling to, build the positioning, launch the campaigns, and show leadership what worked.

This isn’t a “strategy deck, then hand it off” role. You’ll do the thinking and the doing, embedded with our core team and trusted by clients to advise and produce.

Projects ramp up on short notice and scope shifts mid-stream. If you need perfect clarity before you can move, this isn’t your fit. If you do your best work with a problem, a deadline, and some room to figure it out, keep reading.

What You’ll Own

  • GTM Strategy. Build go-to-market strategies for B2B and B2C clients: positioning, messaging architecture, channel selection, and launch sequencing.
  • Research. Define the ideal customer, talk to buyers, and analyze competitors before any messaging gets written.
  • Messaging & Positioning. Help clients say what they do and why it matters, in language real buyers respond to. Run positioning workshops with exec teams, and push back when the client is wrong.
  • Content & Copy. Write the website copy, landing pages, email sequences, and social content. Use AI where it helps, and keep the human edge that makes copy land.
  • Channel Execution. Set up and run campaigns yourself in Meta Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Ads, and email platforms like HubSpot.
  • Measurement & Reporting. Set success metrics up front, run tests, read the data, and present results to client leadership, including the C-suite. You know what to measure, how to dig for the insight, and how to tell the story clearly.
  • Sales Alignment. Build sales materials (decks, one-pagers, outreach) and connect marketing work to pipeline.
  • Campaign Concepting. Take campaigns from brief to launch with both strategic rationale and creative instinct.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years in marketing, brand strategy, or GTM, in-house, agency, or independent.
  • Hands-on experience launching and optimizing paid and email campaigns. You’ve run them, not just briefed them.
  • 2-3 case studies with before-and-after numbers: a repositioning that lifted conversion, a campaign that drove pipeline, etc. Work that moved a metric matters more than polished samples alone.
  • Strong writing across marketing formats.
  • Experience presenting data and recommendations to executives.
  • You use AI for research, testing, and content production, not just drafting, and you know when the output is good enough.
  • You’ve worked as a freelancer or fractional consultant and can manage your time across concurrent projects.
  • You learn a new client’s world fast and work independently without hand-holding.

Mindset

  • You think before you write, but you don’t overthink before you ship.
  • You pay attention to what works in the world and have opinions about why.
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity, ask good questions, and fill reasonable gaps.
  • You take feedback well and give it directly.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Independent contractor, remote, US or Canada.
  • Expect roughly 15-20 hours per week, varying with client needs.
  • Rate: [Up to $100/hour, depending on experience]
  • Some coordination across client time zones.

Equal Opportunity Commitment

Human Agency is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diverse perspectives and are committed to building inclusive, high-performing teams where everyone can do their best work.

Share 2-3 case studies with before-and-after numbers. Could be a repositioning that raised conversion or a campaign that drove pipeline. Most helpful is to include that here with your application, but at the very least plan to share something if you're selected for an interview.
