Director, Employee Experience
Human Interest is on a mission to ensure that people in all lines of work have access to retirement benefits.
Nearly half of all working Americans are not saving enough for their future. Too often it’s because they are employed by a company that doesn’t offer a retirement plan. Human Interest is changing that by making it affordable and accessible for small and medium-sized businesses to offer employees a path to financial independence through retirement savings.
We’re a high-growth tech company changing the retirement industry. We are backed by a number of investors. Most recently, this includes funding from Marshall Wace and Baillie Gifford, as well as top investors such as BlackRock, TPG (The Rise Fund), SoftBank, Glynn Capital, NewView Capital, USVP, Wing, Uncork, and more.
About the role
We are building a world-class organization and are seeking a hands-on, strategic leader to join our transformational People Team as the Director of Employee Experience. This is an exciting opportunity to take a strong foundation and build something truly exceptional. Over the past year, we’ve invested in building a best-in-class People function, implemented high-quality tools, provided our employees with rich and comprehensive benefits offerings, and launched high-impact talent programs around performance management, leadership development, and engagement. To fuel our next stage of growth, we're seeking an experienced builder to join the People leadership team and drive the evolution of Employee Experience at Human Interest.
In this role, you’ll be directly responsible for the design, development, delivery, and ongoing refinement of our people programs across the entire employee lifecycle. You’ll connect the dots across attraction, onboarding, development, retention, and engagement—ensuring every employee has the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.
This is not a “sit back and strategize” role—success here will require creativity, operational excellence, and a deep passion for hands-on execution. You’ll partner closely with our People team, business leaders and key stakeholders, to ensure our programs aren’t just best practice—they’re driving real, measurable results for the business and our people.
What you get to do every day
- Lead the end to end design and continuous improvement of our core people programs, including onboarding, employee development, performance management and engagement.
- Lead the employee engagement survey strategy from launch to action planning, closely partnering with people business partners and business leaders to drive measurable improvements.
- Design and deliver leadership development programs and initiatives to ensure our people leaders are equipped to build and retain high performing teams.
- Enhance and implement strong performance management practices, including goal setting, assessments and development plans.
- Establish multifaceted feedback loops through employee surveys, engagement syncs and exit interviews, translating insights data into actionable and prioritized initiatives.
- Analyze data sets to uncover correlations between engagement, performance and retention, using it to inform and measure the impact of people programs.
- Explore and implement AI tools that can assist with objective performance analysis, bias mitigation and development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of innovation within the People team, encouraging experimentation and the adoption of new approaches to the employee experience.
What you bring to the role
- 10+ years of experience in People/HR roles, including 5+ years with direct experience building and developing high performing teams. This includes exceptional people management and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and drive results through others.
- Deep experience designing and scaling employee success and experience programs in a start-up environment (fast-paced, ability to change course as the needs and expectations are adjusted while delivering high quality work). This requires a strategic mindset, operational excellence, and a hands-on approach, coupled with strong analytical skills to use data to inform decisions and measure impact.
- Demonstrated fluency in leveraging AI tools to enhance HR processes, including strong prompt engineering skills and a proven ability to drive AI adoption within a team and company.
- A strong drive for results and a passion for continuous improvement, both for themselves and the employee experience programs they lead.
- A high level of comfort using Workday, Culture Amp and Atlassian platforms.
- Strong understanding of org design, leadership development and engagement principles.
- Data-savvy with deep experience using people analytics to inform strategy.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven track record of getting things done - you love a challenge and thrive in environments where you can build, deploy and iterate quickly.
