Software Engineer I

San Francisco, California

Human Interest is on a mission to ensure that people in all lines of work have access to retirement benefits.

More than half of all working Americans are not saving enough for their future. Too often, it’s because they are employed by a company that doesn’t offer a retirement plan. Human Interest is changing that by making it affordable and accessible for small and medium-sized businesses to offer employees a path to financial independence through retirement savings.

We’re a high-growth fintech company changing the retirement industry. We are backed by a number of investors. This includes funding from Marshall Wace and Baillie Gifford, as well as top investors such as BlackRock, TPG (The Rise Fund), SoftBank, Glynn Capital, NewView Capital, USVP, Wing, Uncork, and more.

About the role

Are you proficient in computer science and AI-accelerated software engineering? Do you want to put your skills to work alongside a team of elite coders and enthusiastic product thinkers? Curious about how a high-performance startup works and what it takes to build a high-growth unicorn?

As a Software Engineer 1 at Human Interest, you will be an integral part of our engineering team, contributing to projects that are central to our mission. We're looking for bright, technically strong, eager-to-learn engineers who are passionate about problem-solving and fit well with our company culture and values. This is a full-time opportunity to build real-world software in a fast-paced fintech environment, working on the systems that make our 401(k) products simple, intuitive, scalable, and secure. You'll get hands-on mentorship as you ramp, and the expectation is that you grow quickly into owning your own scope of work.

About the team

The Payroll Integrations team builds and maintains the connections that let Human Interest sync retirement plan data with hundreds of payroll providers, this is the infrastructure that makes it possible for millions of dollars in contributions to move accurately and on time, every pay period. It's a team that sits at the intersection of reliability engineering and partner ecosystem management: the work has to be correct, auditable, and resilient because at Human Interest we strive to provide the perfect 401(k) experience and that starts with this team. We're a collaborative, technically curious group that cares as much about simplifying complex systems as we do about shipping.

  • You’ll collaborate with highly-skilled software engineers and product experts.
  • You’ll gain exposure to the culture and software development lifecycle of a fast-moving tech company built on a highly-modern stack.

What you bring to the role

  • Proficient in common practical software engineering skills such as the use of version control, unit testing, and modern editors/IDEs.
