Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an intern for the Advocacy Division focusing on advocacy and communications for the Stockholm office. Ideally, the intern will be available 35 hours per week for 20 weeks starting in late January 2025 through the first week of June 2025. The internship is unpaid, and interns must be enrolled university students for the duration of the internship.

This internship suits those who are interested in gaining experience from a global human rights organization, within a national country office. The intern will gain experience and skills from a broad range of human rights activities, including advocacy and communication. HRW interns have unique opportunities to attend lectures, trainings, professional development workshops, special events relating to human rights, and network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees. As an HRW intern, you will be able to use the skills and knowledge you have acquired during your studies and apply these in a professional environment. HRW’s Stockholm office is part of Norrsken House, located in central Stockholm.

Some of the main tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting in HRW’s advocacy work for human rights in the Nordic region;
  • Supporting the advocacy team through monitoring of global developments, helping draft comment letters, responses, and other relevant material when necessary;
  • Assisting in the development of HRW’s network for creators (Creators Society);
  • Support in spreading HRW's research and recommendations by assisting with creating targeted communications to decisionmakers and the general public; and
  • Participating in briefings with the media and other target groups for HRW's advocacy work.

Qualifications: Interns in Sweden must be an enrolled student for the duration of their internship term. Coursework in a relevant area, such as human rights, media, communications, law, political science, or global studies is preferred, but we are open to other profiles as well. Applicants should be well-organized, creative, flexible, and detail- oriented with excellent time management skills. Experience with collaborating within a team is desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills in Swedish and English are essential. Experience in MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are desirable as well as a demonstrated interest in communication, global affairs, and human rights.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) söker en praktikant med fokus på påverkan och kommunikation till vårt Stockholmskontor. HRW:s Stockholmsteam sitter på Norrsken House, beläget i centrala Stockholm.

Några av de huvudsakliga uppgifterna inkluderar (men är ej begränsade till):

  • Hjälpa till att bedriva påverkansarbete för mänskliga rättigheter inom Norden,
  • Stödja påverkansteamet genom omvärldsbevakning, hjälpa att skriva utkast till remissvar och andra underlag vid behov,
  • Assistera i utvecklingen av HRW:s nätverk för kreatörer (Creators Society),
  • Stödja att sprida HRW:s research och rekommendationer genom att assistera i att skapa riktad kommunikation till makthavare och allmänheten,
  • Delta i genomgångar med media och andra målgrupper för HRW:s påverkansarbete.

Kvalifikationer: Som praktikant måste du vara inskriven på ett universitet under hela praktiken och helst inom ett relevant område, som t.ex. juridik, mänskliga rättigheter, statsvetenskap, globala studier, eller media och kommunikation. En god kandidat är organiserad, kreativ, flexibel och detaljorienterad. Erfarenhet av att samarbeta i team är önskvärt. Det är viktigt att du har goda kunskaper och erfarenheter av MS Office-programmen Word och Excel. Vi ser även att du tycker om att skriva och har god förmåga att uttrycka dig i skriftlig och muntlig kommunikation på både svenska och engelska, samt har ett visat intresse för mänskliga rättigheter, globala frågor och kommunikation.
