The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is led by the Chief Development Officer and handles the organization’s fundraising and outreach activities. The Department consists of units dedicated to the council/board, foundations, operations, data management, leadership gifts, marketing, and special events.

The Donor Experiences & Offers Team supports city teams and frontline fundraisers by creating centralized donor engagement and cultivation tools and opportunities they need to strengthen and expand our donor pool. 

We are seeking candidates for the position of Associate within the Donor Experiences & Offers team to provide administrative, coordination, and events assistance. This is a full-time position that will report to Senior Director, Donor Offer and Experiences, based in Paris. The successful candidate will preferably be based in Paris or London, but we will consider other office locations in Europe.

The successful candidate may have the option to work remotely but will be expected to work from the office 2-3 times a week.

Responsibilities:  

  1. Provide administrative support to the DEO team, ensuring that relevant systems are constantly up to date.
  2. Assist and support the team in the organization of in-person and online events, including Annual Dinners, Council Summit and online Briefings.
  3. Provide administrative and logistical support to donor trips.
  4. Prepare, draft, edit, format and distribute various materials for both internal and external use.
  5. Process invoices and bills.
  6. Organize and provide support for team meetings including agenda creation, collect and compile up-to-date information and minute taking. 
  7. Provide administrative support to the Donor Experience and Offers (DEO) team, such as setting up consultation forums and identifying and establishing processes and systems to keep track of tools and experiences across the department.
  8. Assist with the recruitment, coordination, and mentoring of interns.
  9. Perform other responsibilities as may be required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, in human rights, international relations, political or social science, nonprofit management or a related field is required.  

Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge: 

  1. Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail is required. 
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required, ability to communicate in an additional language (preferably French, Spanish, German or Japanese) is desirable.
  3. Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team are required. 
  4. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications is required. 
  5. Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously are necessary. 
  6. Database experience (such as salesforce) is strongly preferred. 
  7. Strong interest in human rights is desirable. 

Other: Candidates must possess valid work authorization for the country in which they will be based; HRW is unable to sponsor work visas for this role.
