Hut 8 is on a mission to build and operate some of the world’s largest data centers for next-generation computing workloads, including AI, Colocation, Cloud, and Bitcoin Mining. We are proud to offer interesting and challenging opportunities for individuals who want to build teams, solve problems, and make an impact from day one. If you’re an ambitious individual looking for a career that is as rewarding as it is challenging, you’ve come to the right place.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Director, Technical Development at Hut 8, you will lead the technical planning and infrastructure readiness of our data center developments across North America. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Data Center Development, you will be responsible for technical diligence, utility design strategy, infrastructure planning, and site risk mitigation. You will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external consultants to identify and resolve technical risks early in the development lifecycle. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring that projects move forward smoothly from diligence through execution, bringing structure and rigor to a fast-paced, growth-focused environment.

Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:

Site Diligence & Risk Management

  • Lead comprehensive site diligence efforts including geotechnical, environmental, floodplain, wetlands, and access studies.
  • Manage third-party consultants and engineers conducting due diligence and technical evaluations.
  • Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate technical risks that could impact cost, schedule, or feasibility.
  • Develop site-specific risk matrices and provide technical input during early-stage project planning.

Utility Interconnection & Technical Strategy

  • Own the technical utility workstreams across power, water, and telecom infrastructure.
  • Define and implement interconnection strategies for high-voltage (HV) power delivery in collaboration with engineering and utility partners.
  • Manage technical deliverables and schedules related to utility service, including load letters, one-line diagrams, and interconnection applications.
  • Coordinate closely with internal legal and development teams to ensure utility deliverables align with commercial agreements.

Infrastructure Planning & Development

  • Plan and oversee the design of site infrastructure including electrical substations, duct banks, fiber paths, water supply, stormwater, and sewer systems.
  • Ensure all infrastructure systems are scoped, designed, and scheduled for timely deployment in accordance with local requirements and site constraints.
  • Coordinate engineering design reviews and collaborate with AHJs and permitting consultants to ensure infrastructure plans are compliant and constructible.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination with construction and design teams to validate infrastructure feasibility before execution.

Consultant & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Engage, contract, and manage civil engineers, utility consultants, surveyors, and permitting specialists.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for utilities and external stakeholders during development.
  • Align internal stakeholders across engineering, construction, legal, and real estate teams to ensure project readiness and technical transparency.

ABOUT YOU

  • 5-10 years of experience in infrastructure development, utility engineering, or technical project management for data centers, industrial, or energy-related projects.
  • Deep knowledge of utility infrastructure systems (power, water, sewer, telecom) and high-voltage interconnection design.
  • Familiarity with permitting, environmental review, and utility approval workflows
  • Experience managing site diligence programs and consultant scopes from project inception through execution.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate early-stage site and utility risks.
  • Strong technical communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure and engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS platforms, project scheduling software).
  • Ability to lead cross-functional workstreams and keep multiple technical programs on track.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-growth environments where precision and urgency are equally valued.

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Experience overseeing multidisciplinary consultants across environmental, civil, and MEP disciplines
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills with attention to detail and timelines
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment with minimal direction
