ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data Center Manager to oversee operations of a cutting-edge liquid-to-chip cooled data center. This individual will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of the facility, focusing on electrical and mechanical infrastructure, cooling systems, and personnel leadership. The role requires a proactive leader capable of managing a large-scale, mission-critical environment, while prioritizing operational efficiency.

Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:

  • Manage all aspects of the data center's operations, including personnel, electrical infrastructure, mechanical equipment, network systems, cooling systems, vendor relations, and site security.
  • Hire, train, and develop a leadership team and technicians/specialists so they can support daily operations with minimal supervision.
  • Manage on-site teams of 24x7 shifts, ensuring that all work is in accordance with established practices, procedures and safety protocols.
  • Act as a consistent escalation point for all facilities-related issues. Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, dry coolers, cooling towers, air handler units, building monitoring systems, etc.
  • Manage key relationships with local, external partners to include: municipal leaders, energy providers, ISP services, service contractors, etc.
  • Review mechanical and electrical one-lines for fit-out designs.
  • Manage facility budgets and all related KPI's & performance targets.
  • Create, manage, and execute preventative maintenance plans in conjunction with our Maintenance Manager for all data center equipment.
  • Study, compare, and recommend the best equipment and strategies for data center operations and maintenance.
  • Analyze performance metrics to optimize efficiency, especially related to power usage and cooling requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on infrastructure upgrades or expansions, balancing cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including environmental and safety standards.
  • Support engineering investigations and root cause analysis for any events.
  • Review maintenance notifications for impact and ensure proper risk classifications and resolutions.
  • Promote and maintain a culture centered around merit-based recognition and rewards.
  • Promote safety, security and compliance in all aspects of data center operations.
  • And other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Process Engineering or
  • 5+ years of experience in operating and leading teams with a data center critical infrastructure environment (related military experience would be considered).
  • Ability to work as a member of a fast-paced, collaborative, and high-performing team is paramount to this role. Your success in this role will not just come from how hard you work as an individual, but how strong of a team you help create across the facility.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • You are intellectually curious and enjoy training others around you when you learn something new.
  • Thrive in an environment that forces you to get your hands dirty while also spending time behind the computer documenting your findings and communicating effectively across written and verbal mediums.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on occasion and can spend extended periods of time on your feet
  • Must live within a 1-hour commute from the designated work site location.
  • Experience creating and/or executing large-scale critical infrastructure maintenance and reliability programs.
  • Ability to create clear, consistent, and understandable technical documentation to be leveraged by partner teams.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Certified.
  • Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
