Tax Manager

Job Description – 

HW&Co. is currently seeking a Manager for our Tax department in our Cleveland, OH offices. Managers are responsible for overseeing the daily operations within their area of specialization, and report to Senior Managers and Principals. They review income tax returns for companies and individuals within the Tax department.

Job Responsibilities –

Have a working knowledge of tax research techniques

Have a working knowledge of federal and state tax laws and Firm-specific Tax department practices and procedures

Understand the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, and other tax returns prepared by the Firm

Understand and abide by the rules, regulations, and code of conduct of the AICPA

Perform the following tax procedures:

  • Review quarterly and yearly tax projections
  • Review corporate, individual, and partnership tax returns
  • Prepare and review complex tax calculations and returns
  • Maintain detailed work papers to support tax provisions and returns
  • Maintain compliance with federal and local tax laws and regulations
  • Improve tax procedures and systems and initiate any corrective actions
  • Facilitate and manage IRS income tax audits – create schedules, prepare responses, etc.
  • Conduct tax research projects
  • Complete and submit reviewed returns to more experienced staff
  • Assist in business plans and projections

Perform other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications –

  • 5-10 years of public accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA license
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy
  • Experience with consolidated C-corporations, partnerships, S-corporations, individual and/or multi-state tax returns
  • Expert in accounting software (Access, CaseWare and/or SureLink is preferred)
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • The ability to interact with clients and employees of all levels of the Firm
