BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - INDUSTRIAL
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving Hydrite’s industrial chemical growth by aggressively identifying, developing, and closing high‑value new business opportunities. This role is heavily focused on prospecting, field engagement, and securing impactful new accounts, requiring extensive travel and strong commercial acumen. The ideal candidate thrives in a hunter-focused environment and excels at building relationships, developing customized solutions, and winning new customers.
Primary responsibilities include:
New Business Acquisition
- Prioritize and pursue high‑potential prospects to drive new revenue growth across targeted industrial markets.
- Conduct in‑person customer meetings, discovery sessions, product evaluations, and solution presentations to advance opportunities and close deals.
- Build a strong, qualified pipeline through disciplined prospecting activities and proactive outreach.
- Negotiate and execute new contracts that meet margin expectations and support long‑term strategic value.
Strategic Market Development
- Collaborate with the Director of Sales to develop and execute a strategic business development plan aligned with Hydrite’s growth initiatives.
- Identify emerging market opportunities, competitive threats, and industry trends to refine targeting strategies.
- Support the development of key accounts and preferred partner plans, ensuring alignment with growth objectives.
Account Strategy & Opportunity Management
- Oversee the accuracy and discipline of salesforce pipeline management to maximize visibility and efficiency.
- Prepare and review business analyses and proposals for key opportunities, ensuring strong financial and strategic justification.
- Monitor opportunity progression and adjust action plans to accelerate growth and secure priority wins.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Engage closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Technical Service, Customer Experience, and other internal teams to support customer needs and ensure smooth onboarding.
- Serve as the commercial point of contact for prospective accounts, coordinating internal resources to support trials, sampling, logistics, and solution development.
- Maintain strong internal communication to ensure alignment on opportunity status, customer requirements, and execution timelines.
Professional Development & Industry Engagement
- Stay current on industrial chemical markets, competitor activity, and emerging technologies.
- Participate in relevant training, industry events, conferences, and professional organizations to strengthen industry knowledge and expand networks.
Performance Expectations
- Meet or exceed annual gross margin, new business, and account acquisition goals.
- Maintain accurate, timely Salesforce records and reporting.
- Demonstrate Hydrite’s values through high integrity, customer focus, safety awareness, and commitment to delivering strong commercial results.
JOB EXPECTATIONS:
- Uphold Hydrite’s Standard of Excellence through a continuous commitment to maintain quality facilities and provide quality products and services to internal and external customers.
- Participate in RCRA, regulatory, health & safety and process training activities as required. Review changes/additions with your supervisor. Must be RCRA compliant.
- Regular attendance is essential.
- Perform all duties outlined in relevant SOPs and all other duties to be assigned.
- Work with other staff members to maintain workload balances. Provide back-up support, as necessary.
- Support effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- This position reports to the Director of Business Development
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Proven track record of success in business development, outside sales, or commercial roles within industrial chemicals or a related B2B environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Strong hunter mindset with the ability to open new doors and close complex opportunities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and commercial problem‑solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively to engage prospective customers and support opportunity closure.
- Self‑starter with strong organization, follow‑through, and autonomy in managing field-based work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit and work at a computer terminal, and/or talk on the telephone up to 4 hours at a time.
- Ability to travel to customers and stay overnight when necessary.
- Ability to drive or sit in a car up to 7 hours at a time.
