Coding Facilitator

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As a HyperionDev facilitator, you must be passionate not just about coding or technology, but also about education and introducing new learners to the power (and potential) of programming. You must feel strongly about improving the quality of education and be highly motivated to see your students succeed. You must have a proven track record in helping students learn how to code, be it as a peer mentor, school teacher, university lecturer or online tutor. 

For this role, you need to have strong technical knowledge of at least two of Software Engineering (Python, Java), Web Development (HTML, JavaScript, MERN), Data Science (Python, Machine Learning) and Cyber Security. Apart from technical skills, you need to have patience, empathy, commitment to your learners’ progress, a positive attitude and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will fill out one of the key roles in our organisation, leading the delivery of online coding education as part of HyperionDev's online coding bootcamps delivered to thousands of students from around the world each year. RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will be providing code review and coding education to thousands of students from around the world. You will support our learners by helping solve their queries, guiding them on their course content and coding projects and giving quality feedback on students’ code on a daily basis.

 

1. Student Support & Mentorship

• Conduct regular 1:1 facilitation sessions, over various time zones, to provide academic, technical and motivational support to students.
• Offer constructive feedback and guidance tailored to individual student needs.
• Monitor student progress and identify those at risk of falling behind, providing proactive intervention and support.
• Identifying and implementing new strategies for improving student completion rates and retention
  
  

1. Academic Review & Assessment

• Review, grade and provide feedback on student tasks and submissions in line with grading rubrics and quality standards
• Ensure all reviews are completed within the company's SLA timelines.
• Ensure consistency, fairness and accuracy in evaluations.
• Maintain timely turnaround on grading and feedback to support student progression.
  
  

1. Learning Design & SME Contributions

• Periodically collaborate with the Learning Design team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on curriculum development and improvement projects.
• Review and suggest updates to course content to ensure relevance, accuracy and alignment with industry standards.
• Contribute insights from student interactions to enhance curriculum effectiveness and learner engagement.
  
  

1. General Duties

• Maintain accurate student records and mentoring notes.
• Participate in team meetings, training and professional development initiatives.
• Uphold academic integrity and foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Training on advanced level curriculum and new technology stacks introduced in each of our bootcamps
• Reviewing and updating course content and teaching methods
• Assisting the Technical Education Managers  in new strategies for improving the pedagogical processes of our online coding bootcamps to improve student completion rates and retention
• Assisting the Careers Lead in ensuring course content and teaching methods remain highly aligned to the needs of our hiring partners to ensure high student job placement rates

 

REQUIREMENTS

Essential requirements

• Degree/Diploma/Bootcamp, or relevant experience, in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field
• 1+ years of programming experience or teaching experience in a core programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, or C++
• Experience in student support, facilitation, mentoring or training.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
• Fast learner with a willingness to learn new stacks and technologies
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Patience and empathy for your students
• A problem-solving and positive attitude
• Ability to craft and maintain student spreadsheets and collate student data
• Start-up mentality and the desire to see your students succeed
• An interest in the future of education and online learning
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills
• Ability to work after hour shifts as required by the facilitator schedule. This is to line up with international student schedules. 

 

Preferred requirements

• 2+ years of programming experience or teaching experience in a core programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, or C++
• Previous experience in online education or edtech
• Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online teaching tools
• Experience designing and developing interactive learning experiences
• Experience working with online students or delivering remote support
• Active involvement in local and international tech communities
• Mastery in one or more of Python, Java, JavaScript (MERN stack), Data Science, Machine Learning,  iOS/Android development
