Supply Base Engineer

ICON is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Supply Base Engineer, Mechanicals to own the performance, development, and qualification of ICON's mechanical supply chain. As ICON scales production of the Titan print system and expands deployments across the country and globe, this role is critical to ensuring the mechanical components and assemblies that define our hardware are sourced from capable, cost-competitive, and reliable suppliers. You will serve as the primary technical and commercial interface between ICON's Mechanical Engineering and Supply Chain organizations, driving supplier qualification, resolving quality issues, supporting new product introduction, and continuously improving the cost and delivery performance of our mechanical supply base. This position is based at ICON's Austin, TX campus and reports to the Senior Manager, Supply Chain.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the technical and commercial relationship with mechanical suppliers across categories including structural fabrication, sheet metal, machined components, hydraulics, actuators, pumps, and drive systems.
  • Lead supplier qualification activities for new mechanical components, including capability assessments, PPAP/FAI coordination, and supplier audits.
  • Partner closely with Mechanical Engineering during new product introduction (NPI) to provide supply chain input on design for manufacturability (DFM), component standardization, and make-vs-buy decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier quality, delivery, and cost through structured scorecarding, regular business reviews, and corrective action processes.
  • Manage supplier corrective action (SCAR) processes for mechanical components; coordinate root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions with suppliers and internal quality teams.
  • Develop and maintain a dual-source strategy for critical mechanical components to reduce single-source risk and improve supply chain resilience.
  • Support commodity strategy development for mechanical categories, including market analysis, total cost of ownership modeling, and sourcing recommendations.
  • Lead or support cost reduction initiatives through design-to-cost collaboration, re-sourcing, process improvements, and negotiation with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Procurement on RFQ processes, supplier selection, and contract negotiations for mechanical components.
  • Monitor and manage supplier delivery performance; work proactively with suppliers and internal operations to resolve shortages, expedite critical parts, and prevent production disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate supplier and component data in ICON's ERP and PLM systems, including approved vendor lists (AVL), lead times, and qualification status.
  • Travel to supplier facilities as needed to conduct audits, resolve technical issues, and build supplier relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, supply chain engineering, supplier quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering roles involving mechanical components.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical engineering disciplines, including fabrication, machined parts, weldments, hydraulics, or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive corrective action and supplier improvement programs with measurable results.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction in a hardware manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, procurement, and supplier teams.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where priorities evolve with the product roadmap.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in construction technology, robotics, heavy equipment, or industrial automation supply chains is a plus.
  • Experience with or knowledge of supplier qualification processes, including capability assessments, PPAP, FAI, and supplier audits.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, engineering drawings, and mechanical tolerance review.
  • Expertise with DFx principles in mechanical design, engineering, and sourcing.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and PLM tools.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and supplier development methodologies.
  • Experience managing suppliers across multiple geographies, including domestic and international manufacturing partners.
  • Certification in supply chain management (CSCP, CPIM) or quality management (CQE, Six Sigma) is a plus.
