Construction Survey Specialist

Austin, Texas, United States

ICON is seeking a Construction Survey Specialist II to support field operations on our construction projects in and around Central Texas, as well as throughout the country. The Survey Technician verifies and lays out critical locations before foundation concrete placement as well as prior to 3D-printing so that our printers, foundations, and anchors work together without rework. Your job is to deliver accurate and timely field data, verify foundation formwork accuracy, verify stub-up location accuracy and identify wet set dowel locations in an effort to keep projects on schedule and within budget parameters.

ICON is innovating the way buildings are constructed. Forward thinking individuals will thrive in this role. Precision on a 3D-printed project happens before the print, not after it. Your work will directly enable ICON to move from drilling anchors after the pour to setting them in wet concrete. This role will work alongside Superintendents, Senior Construction Managers, and the Print Operations team, as well as external consultants as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify foundation plumbing locations prior to pour to confirm they do not conflict with the print path or print head clearances.
  • Verify pre-determined core locations prior to pour for dowel wet setting.
  • Assist in aligning and calibrating printers using total stations, robotic layout equipment, and other survey tools.
  • Establish and verify control points, benchmarks, and DSA (digital slab alignment) parameters
  • Perform as-built verification of foundation formwork and completed foundations; report deviations to the Superintendent before work proceeds.
  • Collaborate with both Superintendent and foundation trade partners to communicate required tolerances and correct out-of-tolerance work.
  • Use ICON's proprietary project management software to log survey activities and share data with project teams.
  • Maintain both electronic and on-site physical records, including field notes, point files, and verification reports.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and safeguard survey equipment.
  • Follow ICON's safety program and all site-specific safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with site Superintendents regarding survey schedules, findings, and equipment needs.
  • Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience in construction layout, field survey, or a similar role.
  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or comparably related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with total stations, GNSS/RTK equipment, and levels.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural, civil, plumbing, and architectural plans.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using project management software; predominately Procore and ICON BuildOS.
  • Working knowledge of construction tolerances, particularly for concrete foundations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including walking uneven terrain and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel to projects around the State of Texas or other locations as needed.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with concrete foundation layouts; residential, commercial, muti-family and MILCON
  • Familiarity with CAD, Trimble, Leica, or similar survey and layout platforms.
  • Experience with 3D printing, robotics, or automated construction equipment.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Identifies out-of-tolerance conditions before they delay a pour or print.
  • A self-starter's attitude - you don't need to be told what to do next.
