Vice President, Employment Counsel

This role sits within ICONIQ’s Legal and Compliance team, which partners across the firm to provide proactive, solution-oriented counsel that supports strategic goals while upholding our values-driven culture. As Vice President, Employment Counsel, you will provide expert guidance on a wide range of employment matters, working closely with Human Capital, Compliance, and business leadership to navigate complex legal landscapes and foster a positive, compliant workplace.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide counsel on U.S. federal, New York, California, and local employment laws, with additional support for international employment matters as needed.
  • Advise on a variety of HR-related matters including employee relations, performance management, terminations, accommodations, and compensation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements such as offer letters, separation agreements, and contractor agreements.
  • Monitor employment law developments and ensure timely compliance with changing regulations.
  • Partner with Human Capital on policy development, training, and best practices in employment.
  • Manage internal investigations in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee employment-related litigation and pre-litigation matters, coordinating with outside counsel.
  • Support broader Legal and Compliance initiatives with a focus on risk mitigation and cross-functional collaboration.

 

Ideal Candidate Background:

  • JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in the U.S.
  • 6+ years of employment law experience at a top law firm or in-house legal team.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. employment law with a strong understanding of NY and CA regulations.
  • Strong drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills, with sound legal and business judgment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
  • High ethical standards and emotional intelligence, with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Familiarity with international employment law and/or a global workforce is a plus.
  • Interest in AI-driven legal tools is also a plus.

Location: Applicants are expected to work onsite in our New York office in accordance with our hybrid working policy.

 

Compensation Range: ICONIQ is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At ICONIQ, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation terms. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $200,000-$250,000 together with the benefits listed above.
