About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated Corporate Counsel specializing in Technology Products and Procurement to join our legal team. This role will provide essential support to our product and business teams, offering practical legal guidance throughout the product lifecycle – from initial concept to market launch – and skillfully navigating complex commercial and procurement agreements. You will be at the forefront of innovation, tackling cutting-edge legal issues in a dynamic environment. Experience in identity products is strongly desired. Collaboration will be key, working with colleagues across various departments (business, engineering, compliance, security, and policy) on mission-critical product initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive legal counsel to product, engineering, business, and procurement teams on diverse areas including intellectual property, data privacy, consumer protection, regulatory compliance, contract interpretation, platform liability, and the evolving landscape of generative AI. This includes providing support for identity systems and other core backend services. Additionally, provide expert advice on all facets of procurement law, encompassing contract development, vendor relationships, and dispute resolution.
- High level of product awareness including the ability to describe what the Company’s critical vendors provide, where they sit in the tech stack, where they fit in our customer journey, and how they integrate with the Company and impact or interact with other product vendors.
- Strong sense of ownership, understanding where value can be derived for the Company, prioritization skills and proactive in resolving contracts/ negotiations to meet business needs. Able to own all aspects of the lifecycle of complex vendor agreements (including partnerships, SaaS vendors, terms of service, etc.), from drafting and negotiation to final execution.
- Spearhead contract review of new products and features, collaborating closely with product management and development teams to proactively mitigate risks during the entire development process. This involves negotiating and in some instances drafting various procurement agreements for software, hardware, and other essential services.
- Continuously improve procurement processes and product lifecycle management including drafting, maintenance and updates for playbooks and templates to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across product and procurement functions.
- Proactively identify and advise on legal risks and opportunities, engaging with all levels of the business, up to and including senior leadership, to promote informed decision-making and proactive risk management.
- Ensure global regulatory compliance, with a particular emphasis on digital identity and online platforms, along with relevant procurement regulations. Knowledge of the NIST, FedRAMP frameworks is a strong preference.
- Deliver insightful legal strategies to product and procurement teams, transforming intricate legal requirements into practical, actionable guidance. This will empower informed decision-making and efficient procurement processes.
- Ability to succinctly communicate contract risk concepts to business and product stakeholders. Oversee internal communications, projects, and training initiatives, leading high-impact projects involving legal analysis and compliance across multiple stakeholders.
- Stay ahead of industry developments in areas such as online platforms, digital identity, privacy, generative AI, data protection, and procurement best practices to anticipate and address emerging legal and business challenges.
- Provide advice on the legal ramifications of new product features and procurement activities, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws and regulations. Collaborate with relevant teams to create and implement robust product policies and procurement procedures that minimize risk.
Basic Qualifications:
- Licensed attorney in good standing in the United States, with active membership in a state bar and a J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, encompassing product counseling, commercial transactions, and regulatory compliance. 2+ years' experience in procurement and technology transactions.
- 1+ years' experience within a multinational company.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in data privacy, intellectual property, insurance, platform liability, and generative AI is a strong advantage.
- Exceptional analytical, drafting, negotiation, presentation, and communication abilities, with a proven capacity to translate complex legal concepts into practical business advice.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven ability to effectively communicate with and advise technology and procurement teams on complex legal matters.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines with demonstrated project management skills. Must be flexible and have the ability to operate in a dynamic environment within an organization shaped by robust regulatory requirements.
- Experience advising on privacy, consumer protection, user campaigns, marketing, promotions, and other relevant regulatory requirements, including those specific to procurement is highly desirable.
- Meticulous attention to detail and proven ability to coordinate across multiple teams. Collaborative, solutions-oriented approach, demonstrating a proactive and highly effective problem-solving mindset.
