Staff Product Manager, Wallet Authentication

Location: Mountain View, CA or McLean, VA offices and requires full-time in-office attendance.

Team: Product Management

Reports to: VP of Product, Platform

About the Role

ID.me is seeking a Staff Product Manager to own the Wallet Authentication platform. You will directly shape how 100M+ members stay secure, recover access to their wallets, and authenticate across government, healthcare, and commercial services. You will own the full product lifecycle for authentication: first-factor and multi-factor flows, API and agent authentication, wallet recovery, and fraud prevention. Every decision you make affects security, member trust, and revenue at scale.

You will set the vision for ID.me's authentication platform: first-factor and multi-factor flows, passkeys, machine-to-machine authentication for APIs and AI agents, and AAL-level platform design under NIST 800-63-4. You will partner with the Wallet apps team on customer outcomes, and with Identity Graph, Credentials, Identity Verification, Engineering, Security, Risk & Fraud, and Design to ship at internet scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Platform Strategy: Define and own the roadmap for authentication flows, fraud prevention, wallet recovery, email lifecycle management, and machine-to-machine authentication.
  • Authentication Flows: Own first-factor and second-factor authentication including passwordless, passkeys, silent network authentication, and identifier-based flows. Drive pass-rate improvements while reducing friction across the member experience.
  • API and Agent Authentication: Define requirements for secure, scalable authentication for API consumers and AI agents. Own the product surface that enables third-party and agentic integrations to authenticate against ID.me's identity platform.
  • Fraud Prevention: Translate threat intelligence into product requirements. Own credential stuffing mitigation, real-time risk signals, wallet suspension policies, and fraud rule governance.
  • Wallet Recovery: Define the product vision for automated wallet recovery. Current recovery is fully manual. Automation here has direct, measurable impact on member experience and operational cost.
  • Stakeholder Management: Align Engineering, Security, Member Support, and GTM. Communicate trade-offs and decisions clearly to executives, including the CEO.
  • Data-Driven Execution: Define and monitor core metrics including first-factor pass rate, MFA adoption, wallet recovery resolution rate, and support ticket deflection.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years owning authentication, identity, or security platform products.
  • Deep working knowledge of modern authentication protocols: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, FIDO2/WebAuthn, SAML, TOTP.
  • Experience with API authentication patterns (API keys, OAuth client credentials, mTLS), and with authentication for AI agents, MCP servers, or other autonomous systems.
  • Proven ability to ship in environments with security and compliance dependencies.
  • Strong technical acumen. Able to lead architectural discussions with Principal Engineers.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; experience working across platform and apps teams.
  • Experience using data to drive prioritization and measure impact.
  • Familiarity with identity assurance frameworks (NIST 800-63-4 AAL/IAL) preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience

Key Success Metrics

  • First-factor and second-factor pass rates
  • Wallet recovery resolution rate (automated vs. manual)
  • Support ticket volume reduction tied to authentication and wallet recovery
  • Fraud-related wallet suspension rate and false positive reinstatement rate
  • API and agent authentication adoption and reliability

Why This Role

Authentication is the highest-leverage surface at ID.me. Every member interaction starts here. The platform you own will support 100M+ members across government, healthcare, and commercial partners, and will be the authentication foundation for ID.me's identity platform under NIST 800-63-4. The next 12 months: deliver the dedicated authenticator track, ship API and agentic authentication, and automate wallet recovery to materially reduce operational cost.

The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
