Engagement Type: Full-Time Location: Mountain View, CA (Onsite 5 days per week)

Role Overview

ID.me is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to join the Life Hub team, building the SuperApp's life-events experience — the surface that helps members discover and access the government, healthcare, and commercial benefits they are eligible for based on major life moments (turning 65, leaving the military, becoming disabled, and similar events).

This role is full stack: you will help build the data model and application logic that connects a member's self-asserted and verified attributes to eligible life events, use cases, and application resources, working across both backend services (Java, REST APIs) and the React/Next.js experiences members interact with. You will work closely with the team's senior engineers, Product, and Design to turn eligibility rules and use-case definitions into working software, starting with the team's Medicare pilot and expanding into additional life events such as retirement and disability.

This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Life Hub Eligibility Logic: Build and maintain application logic that turns eligibility attributes (self-asserted, or read from the Persons and Profiles APIs) into ranked, eligible life events and use cases for a member.
  • Implement Use-Case & Eligibility Models: Implement use-case and eligibility JSON models, in partnership with senior engineers and the Developer Portal team, that map application resources, use cases, and eligibility conditions for pilot programs such as Medicare.
  • Support Discovery & Access Flows: Contribute to discovery and access flows, ensuring discovery remains lenient (showing ineligible life events, sorted appropriately) while access enforcement remains a hard gate tied to resource-level policy.
  • Integrate with Platform APIs: Integrate with Persons, Profiles, and Developer Portal control-plane APIs for eligibility and access data rather than hardcoding business logic client-side.
  • Build Member-Facing UI: Build and maintain React/Next.js web experiences for Life Hub, turning discovery and eligibility concepts into working, member-centered UI.
  • Track Attribute Gaps: Support tracking and documentation of attribute gaps (e.g., residency, disability status, entitlement data) in partnership with the Profile and Persons API teams.
  • Collaborate with Design and Product: Work closely with Design and Product, and ask insightful questions during planning and refinement, to help shape Life Hub's ontology and roadmap.
  • Performance, Accessibility & Reliability: Ensure shipped features meet ID.me's standards for performance, accessibility, and cross-browser reliability.
  • Production Support: Provide production support and maintenance for shipped features, including triaging and resolving incidents and bugs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent internship/academic project experience).
  • Working proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Java preferred) and comfort with REST APIs.
  • Working experience with a modern frontend framework (React and/or Next.js).
  • Solid fundamentals in data structures, debugging, and automated testing.
  • Comfortable working on well-defined tickets with pair programming and consultation from more senior engineers.
  • Clear written and verbal communication — this role requires close collaboration with Product, Design, and adjacent platform teams (Developer Portal, Persons/Profile API).
  • AI-native engineering practices — comfortable using AI tooling (e.g., code generation, test coverage, documentation) to accelerate development.

We'd Love to See

  • Exposure to eligibility, entitlements, or identity/benefits-adjacent domains.
  • Experience with JSON-based data modeling or rules/policy engines.
  • Familiarity with ID.me's Wallet, OAuth/OIDC concepts, or the Nova/Fragno design system.
  • Prior full-stack project experience spanning a UI, an API layer, and a database.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and cross-browser behavior.

The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
