About the Role:

As a Data Engineer Intern with the Exchange Data Engineering Team, you will work with individuals across the organization to help advance IEX's data technology initiatives. This is a cross-functional opportunity where you will be able to leverage your technical and problem-solving skills to help IEX set new standards and raise the bar for performance, fairness, and transparency.

No prior finance experience is necessary - just an appetite to dive deep into the raw data, take on projects, and learn as you go. As an intern, you will help us build a scalable AI MCP solution that supports data discovery and report generation.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with KDB+/q , Python and AI models.
  • Design and implement an AI Model Context Protocol (MCP) server with data querying and reporting capabilities.
  • Design an LLM-powered chatbot that integrates with Slack, giving users access to the MCP server's capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the team to enhance the Data Platform’s usability.
  • Create wiki pages to document your work and share knowledge with the team

Your Background:

  • Undergraduate working towards a degree in Engineering, Science, or Math
  • Experience programming in Python
  • Familiarity with database queries and extract, load, transform (ELT) concepts
  • Experience working with Linux and shell-scripting.
  • Working knowledge of Confluence and AI MCP server are a plus.
  • Ability to share knowledge and answer questions using data

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting annual base pay is $45.00/hour for this NY-based position. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The annual base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for bonus and equity.
