Position Summary

The Staff Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations, with a focus on overseas and domestic vendor payments, balance sheet reconciliations, and an accurate, on-time month-end close. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this hands-on role owns key general ledger areas, helps keep accounts payable clean and current, and partners with Operations, Supply Chain, and the AP team to ensure every transaction is accurate and fully supported. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and accountable, grounded in GAAP accrual accounting, and motivated to improve processes in a growing business.

Location: Long Beach, CA

Direct Reports: None

Type: Hybrid, 3 days in-office

What You'll Own

Vendor Prepayments & International Payments: Process and record overseas and domestic vendor prepayments and international wires, reconciling purchase orders to invoices before payment is released. Maintain the weekly Overseas Open PO report, process supplier credit applications, and ensure every high-dollar payment is accurate, approved, and fully supported.

Accounts Payable Accuracy & Vendor Reconciliation: Reconcile vendor statements to the AP aging, resolve past-due items and balances aged over 30 days, and clear duplicate or unapplied activity. Partner with the AP team to keep vendor inquiries answered promptly and the AP subledger tied to the general ledger.

Month-End Close & General Ledger: Prepare journal entries, accruals, and prepaid amortization with minimal supervision. Complete balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, and credit cards, on schedule, and help assemble the monthly close package and financial statements.

Fixed Assets, Credit Cards & Sales Tax: Track capital expenditures and maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation. Reconcile company credit card activity and collect receipts and coding from cardholders monthly. Prepare accurate, timely sales and use tax filings.

Inventory & Operations Support: Partner with Operations at both distribution centers to review inventory adjustments, damages, and cycle count results, ensuring activity is properly recorded and supported.

Variance Analysis, Controls & Process Improvement: Analyze expenses against budget and research variances. Support budgeting, reforecasting, annual reviews, and tax requests. Maintain current desk procedures, serve as a cross-trained backup within the Accounting team, and identify ways to strengthen controls and reduce manual work in NetSuite.

What Success Looks Like

Accurate, Timely Payments: Vendor prepayments and international wires are processed on time, with purchase orders reconciled to invoices and no payment errors.

Clean, Reconciled Balance Sheet: Assigned accounts are reconciled every month with no unexplained differences or aged reconciling items.

Reliable Month-End Close: Journal entries, accruals, and close tasks are completed on schedule with minimal review adjustments.

Current, Reconciled AP: Vendor statements are reconciled, past dues are resolved, and AP aging over 30 days is steadily reduced.
