
Manager of Research Project Management (Biopharma)

Position Overview
The Manager of Research Project Management supports research teams in the planning, coordination, and execution of research projects. This role requires a highly organized individual with a solid scientific background and strong project management capabilities. The Manager will partner closely with research scientists, cross-functional teams, and external collaborators to help ensure projects progress efficiently from initiation through completion, while aligning with organizational objectives and applicable regulatory requirements.
This position reports to a senior leader within the Project and Program Management organization and plays an important role in supporting scientific productivity and operational effectiveness across the research organization.
Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
- Support the development and maintenance of project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource needs.
- Track execution of research projects to help ensure delivery against agreed scope, timelines, and budgets.
- Apply established project management tools, processes, and best practices to support consistent project execution.
Team Coordination
- Coordinate cross-functional project team activities, including research scientists, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and external partners as applicable.
- Organize and facilitate regular project meetings to track progress, document decisions, and follow up on action items.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration among project team members.
Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as a key point of contact for day-to-day project coordination and status updates.
- Prepare and deliver clear project status reports to project stakeholders and management.
- Escalate risks, issues, and decision points to senior project or functional leadership as appropriate.
Risk and Issue Management
- Identify project risks and issues in collaboration with project team members.
- Track mitigation actions and support proactive issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
- Escalate significant risks or delays in a timely manner.
Budget and Resource Tracking
- Assist with tracking project budgets and resource utilization.
- Monitor project expenses and support budget updates as needed.
- Coordinate resource needs in collaboration with functional managers and project leadership.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including project plans, meeting minutes, and status reports.
- Support compliance with internal processes, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ensure documentation is organized, complete, and audit ready.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Track project performance metrics and timelines.
- Contribute to project reporting and post-project reviews.
- Use data and lessons learned to support continuous improvement of project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field required, advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in research project management or related roles within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences industry.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional project teams in a matrixed environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and vendors in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to escalate appropriately.
Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge of project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Asana, Trello, NetSuite).
- Understanding of the drug discovery and early research development process.
- Familiarity with regulatory concepts and industry standards (e.g., FDA, EMA) relevant to research activities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Washington State Pay Range
$96,720 - $126,170 USD
