In this position, you will work hands-on across application code and infrastructure, in close collaboration with the senior engineers on the team, to scale, harden, and monitor a platform that serves very large reader fleets.

We’re building a high-caliber software team from the ground up with uncompromising standards for quality, velocity, and close, cross-functional collaboration. You’ll work across the full technology stack (frontend, backend, mobile, databases, event sourcing, MQTT, PKI/certificates, IoT) alongside collaborators from diverse disciplines including design, firmware, and silicon.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and build infrastructure that scales automatically to handle connection surges of up to a million RFID readers
  • Design for resilience to cloud regional outages, including multi-region deployment, failover, and disaster recovery
  • Write production code in Rust and TypeScript for backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
  • Profile and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues across the system
  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, secrets and certificate management, deployment, and environment management
  • Build monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting for production systems, and handle incident response
  • Build and operate event-driven systems using event sourcing, message queues, and MQTT
  • Drive technical strategy for infrastructure and present proposals to engineering, product, and executive leadership
  • Take primary ownership of infrastructure and operations, partnering with senior engineers who build and ship alongside you
  • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives with engineering, product, and other Impinj teams where our platform intersects with theirs
  • Establish engineering best practices and patterns that increase team velocity and ensure long-term scalability
  • Mentor and coach engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance
  • Lead the team’s adoption of AI tools and practices for building, testing, and operating software

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Typically requires 12+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience developing production application code as well as designing and operating cloud infrastructure
  • Deep expertise in cloud platforms, containers and orchestration, infrastructure as code, networking, security, and observability
  • Strong understanding of scaling, load management, consistency, and failure modes in distributed systems
  • Proven track record of building and operating systems at scale, with detailed examples of problems you solved
  • Demonstrated history of delivering results on new, ambiguous, or difficult technical problems
  • Demonstrated history of increasing technical scope and influence, including mentoring engineers and leading initiatives across teams
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a record of helping teammates succeed
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve the speed and quality of engineering work
  • Experience with Azure, event sourcing, IoT device fleets, or embedded software preferred

Purpose: At Impinj, we are committed to using technology to improve our processes while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and fairness. This policy outlines the permitted uses of artificial intelligence (AI) in our recruitment process for both candidates and our hiring teams.

How Impinj's Recruiting team uses AI:
1.    Interview Scheduling: AI-powered scheduling tools may be used to coordinate interview times between candidates and interviewers. This ensures a more efficient and convenient scheduling process for all parties involved.
2.    Skill Assessments: AI-based assessments may be used to evaluate specific skills relevant to the job. These assessments are designed to provide an objective measure of a candidate's abilities. Results from AI assessments will be considered alongside other evaluation methods to ensure a comprehensive review of each candidate.
3.    Interview transcription: With a candidate’s verbal consent, we may use AI to transcribe and summarize our interviews to reduce reliance on manual notetaking during an interview.

Candidate Expectations:
•    Preparation: We encourage candidates to use available resources for preparation. This includes conducting online research, engaging with professional networks, and asking clarifying questions.
•    Live Interviews: Candidates may not use AI to supplement their performance during live interviews, complete take-home assignments, or for sample work submissions, unless explicitly instructed or agreed upon by a member of the Impinj Recruiting team prior to the live interview or otherwise in advance of the assignment. We want to see your independent ability to think and perform.

Impinj reserves the right to disqualify candidates based on the necessary skills and qualifications for the role(s) in which they’ve applied. If a candidate is reasonably suspected to be using AI during without pre-approval by a member of the Impinj Recruiting team, the candidate may be invalidated for the role.

Voluntary Self-Identification

For government reporting purposes, we ask candidates to respond to the below self-identification survey. Completion of the form is entirely voluntary. Whatever your decision, it will not be considered in the hiring process or thereafter. Any information that you do provide will be recorded and maintained in a confidential file.

As set forth in Impinj’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected group status under any applicable law.
