Assistant Financial Controller (Government Projects & DCAA Compliance)

Role Overview: We are looking for a collaborative, detail-oriented Assistant Financial Controller to report directly to our Financial Controller and serve as the go-to partner for our federal government contracting portfolio. If you have a solid background in GovCon accounting (including DCAA compliance and FAR guidelines) but want to escape the rigid corporate grind and bring your expertise to a modern, high-trust tech environment, we’d love to talk to you. In this role, you will ensure our day-to-day financial practices remain rock-solid while helping us optimize profitability and maintain precise reporting. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor our day-to-day accounting activities to ensure they align with DCAA, FAR, and GAAP guidelines. You'll assist the Controller with preparation for DCAA audits (including Incurred Cost Submissions) and help gather documentation for external auditors.
  • Manage multi-state payroll processing for our federal projects, ensuring alignment with labor regulations (SCA/Davis-Bacon) and making sure labor hours are accurately mapped to the right project codes.
  • Handle project-level accounting for contract types like CPFF, CPAF, and FFP. You'll partner closely with Project Managers to track actuals against budgets, submit invoices through government portals (WAWF/PIEE), and calculate revenue recognition.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes. You'll help maintain clear financial dashboards, project profitability reports, and burn rate forecasts to give leadership the insights they need.
  • Special projects and evolving operational needs as required.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of general accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years working directly inside a federal government contracting environment.
  • Understanding of FAR guidelines and DCAA timekeeping/cost-allocation rules.
  • Ideally you would have hands-on experience using NetSuite and profound Excel for day-to-day data tracking.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • An organized, detail-driven professional who thrives in a remote, high-autonomy environment.
