Job Description 

Job Title: Medical Coder & Biller 

Base Salary: 48K 

Work Model: Remote 

Job Summary: 

The Medical Coder & Biller will assist in both coding and billing of claims.  The Medical Coder & Biller has responsibilities in billing, reimbursement, insurance follow-up, and coding including assigning required Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM)In addition, is responsible for analyzing patient data for accuracy, service quality and insurance. 

Essential Job Functions: 

Billing 

  • Denial and insurance follow-up are achieved within the performance standards. 
  • Posting of accurate payer payments in timely and accurate fashion.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement practices, CMS, HIPAA and other governmental regulations, rules, and policies as it pertains to billing and collections.
  • Proficient with various computerized applications and billing software (SAMMS, Kipu and/or RPMS preferred)
  • Reports to Director of Revenue Cycle Services but collaborates with both Coding Lead and Director of Revenue Cycle Services to ensure seamless claims from EMR to claim payment.  

Coding 

  • Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes; identifies diagnostic and procedural information. 
  • Accurate coding of ICD10CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes for claims including but not limited to also assigning POS, modifiers etc.
  • Assigns accurate codes per documentation given.
  • Assist on other projects as assigned by DoRCS or Coding Lead.

  • This is a remote position but must be willing to travel on a limited basis, as needed. 

Position Requirements: 

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in healthcare billing and coding.
  • Active Certified Coding Credential (CCS, CCS-P, CCA, RHIT, RHIA or CPC) and additional HIM experience. RHIT/RHIA with 5+ years’ experience in coding also acceptable
  • Associate degree in healthcare administration, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience working with Third Party Payers to resolve reimbursement issues.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement and billing requirements and regulations.
  • Microsoft Office, Electronic Medical Record, Excel, Word, Power Point experience
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate values such as fostering collaboration and providing a positive, motivating environment.
  • Must possess excellent customer relations and communication skills.
  • Must work well with limited supervision.
  • Previous medical office experience preferred.
  • Previous medical billing and claim resolution experience are preferred.
  • Professionalism, confidentiality, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail; problem solving, as well as administrative skills are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication  
  • Organizational skills and basic record-keeping helpful
  • This is a remote position but must be willing to travel on a limited basis, as needed.
  • Must have high speed internet access.
