Position Summary
Develops and carries out comprehensive test protocols in support of Research and New Product Development activities for Low and Medium Voltage power distribution equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up test fixtures, power sources, instrumentation and data acquisition systems for various tests, ensuring accuracy and repeatability.
- Conduct performance and reliability tests on newly developed products and existing products undergoing evaluation or re-certification.
- Coordinate, oversee and conduct testing on low and medium voltage power distribution equipment, including switchgear, circuit breakers and transformers in accordance with industry standards and internal specifications.
- Leads, mentors, and directs efforts of engineers and technicians.
- Record and analyze test data, identify trends and anomalies and collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Develop and maintain test procedures, safety protocols and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
- Manage the testing schedule, prioritize tasks and ensure timely completion of testing projects.
- Schedule and supervise testing at 3rd party laboratories when testing cannot be completed in-house.
- Coordinate shipments and assist with packaging, loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
- Support and assist with assembling and modifying equipment and test articles.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development engineering, product engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to drive product improvements and resolve technical issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a testing or engineering role, preferably in the power distribution industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, testing methodologies and relevant standards (e.g., UL, CSA, IEEE, IEC).
- Familiarity with laboratory competency and documentation standards such as ISO 17025 and UL's Data Acceptance Program preferred.
- Experience with power test equipment and instrumentation, including data acquisition systems and test automation.
- Proven experience in adhering to safety procedures specific to power distribution or power equipment testing, including lock-out tag-out protocols, effective grounding techniques and safe handling of medium voltage power sources.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
