Metal Fabrication Technician

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Metal Fabrication Technician (Tech) to join our prototyping team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in fabrication, metrology, and set up and operation of machines including laser/punches, routers, and brakes. Tech responsibilities include the manufacture of metal parts, evaluation of drawings, and documentation.  Applicants must think independently, and work with little supervision. This is a multidisciplinary position. Techs will be required to cross train in other areas including assembly and test.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate to document and fix errors.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and improve techniques.
  • Set up, and operate fabricating machines, such as press brake, laser/punch machine, horizontal bend machine, and CNC router for various metals including steel, aluminum copper.
  • Manufacture metal and plastic parts to specifications and schedules.
  • Assemble and Test units according to drawings and work instructions.
  • Accurately utilize measuring devices such as 3D Scanners, scales, gauges, rulers, micrometers, calipers, squares, and tape measure.
  • Comply with all safety, quality and work rules, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Maintain production equipment, and a safe, clean, and healthy work environment.
  • Escalate problems and communicate progress.
  • Accurately transact data and update dashboards.
  • Handle, store and retrieve materials.
  • Assist Engineers in conducting tests on low and medium voltage power distribution equipment
  • Support others.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Work Safely.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of fabrication experience; preferably in mixed metal fabrication.
  • 1-2 years of experience, or training in document control.
  • Forklift certified.
  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred.

 

Workplace Conditions:

  • Activities: Sitting – 10% Walking/Standing – 90%
  • Lifting: Continuously lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Bending: Must be able to bend, squat, and climb.
  • Vision: Ability to see small or detailed items.
  • Mental Demands: Interpret, analyze, research, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Environment: Shop/warehouse. Not climate controlled. Exposure to heat and cold, wet/humid conditions, noise/vibration.
