Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the daily outbound shipping operation, including staging, packing, loading, and dispatch of finished electrical equipment so orders leave on the promised date.
  • Operate a forklift to stage, load, and unload finished equipment and materials, including trucks at the dock.
  • Direct the dedicated drivers who move product with pallet jacks. Assign work, set schedules, coach them, and keep them working safely.
  • Work with the Logistics Manager to book and manage carriers and freight brokers for flatbed, truckload, and less-than-truckload shipments, including pickup times and special handling needs.
  • Enter shipping information into the computer system and keep order and inventory status accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare and review shipping paperwork, including bills of lading, packing lists, and commercial invoices, and support customs paperwork for shipments that cross the border.
  • Keep shipping records organized and easy to find, including signed delivery proof, packing lists, and damage reports.
  • Partner with Production, Production Planning, and Quality to confirm when equipment will be ready to ship, and give early notice to customers and internal teams when dates change.
  • Make sure large and heavy equipment is crated, blocked, braced, and secured correctly to prevent damage in transit.
  • Enforce plant safety rules and safe use of forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Track on-time shipments, freight cost, and damage claims, and report results to the Logistics Manager.
  • Resolve carrier problems, shipping errors, and freight damage claims quickly and keep customers informed.
  • Help plan and set up the shipping area, layout, equipment, and work routines for the new manufacturing plant as it comes online.
  • Flexible and adaptable team player who operates with agility and resourcefulness and thrives in an often-changing environment. You will be operating with a start-up mindset and must be willing to help wherever needed - "not my job" is an unacceptable response.

Ideal Candidate Profile (Optional):

A hands-on shipping leader who is comfortable on the dock and at a desk. You keep a steady eye on safety, take pride in getting orders out on time and undamaged, and enjoy building a new operation from the ground up.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 5 or more years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or logistics work in a manufacturing setting, including at least 2 years leading a team
  • Experience shipping large, heavy, or oversized equipment by flatbed, truckload, and less-than-truckload carriers
  • Working knowledge of bills of lading, freight classes, DOT shipping rules, and import and export paperwork
  • Comfortable entering data and keeping records in an ERP system and Microsoft Excel (Infor SyteLine is a plus)
  • Forklift experience with a current certification (or the ability to get certified), and working knowledge of OSHA safety rules
  • Experience leading team members who work with pallet jacks and other material handling equipment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work well with carriers, customers, and teams across the plant
  • Experience in electrical equipment, switchgear, or similar heavy manufacturing is a plus
  • Demonstrated career ambition with a track record of growth and increasing responsibility; highly promotable with the potential to take on broader leadership roles within a fast-paced, high-growth organization

Workplace Conditions:

Physical Demands

  • Activities:  Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching on the shipping dock and plant floor. Regular forklift operation, plus desk and computer work for data entry and records.
  • Lifting: Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Heavier items are moved with a forklift, crane, or help from the team.
  • Vision: Close vision to read paperwork and screens, plus distance vision and depth perception to oversee dock and truck loading safely.

Mental Demands - Manage several deadlines and changing priorities at once, make quick decisions, pay close attention to detail on shipping documents, and communicate clearly with the team, carriers, and customers.

Environment - Manufacturing plant, shipping dock, and office. Exposure to noise, moving equipment such as forklifts and cranes, and outdoor weather at the truck dock. Safety glasses, steel toe boots, and hearing protection are required in plant areas.
