
Data Accountant - Operational Excellence
About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy Data Accountant to join our Global Finance Services (GFS) team. This hybrid role blends traditional accounting expertise with data analytics to enhance financial accuracy, streamline processes, and guide operational excellence. You will play an important role in financial data governance, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives, supporting both compliance and innovation across global finance operations.
This is a hybrid role (2 days per week) based out of our Central London (Chancery Lane) office, reporting into the Director of Global Operational Excellence.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Financial Data Management & Reporting

Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial data across systems (e.g., Oracle, Maconomy, Power BI).

Maintain large datasets relevant to financial operations.

Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.

Support month-end and year-end closing activities and reconciliation tracking.

Help with internal and external audits through data-driven documentation and analysis.
Process Improvement & Automation

Support implementation of automation and process solutions to guide efficiency.

Develop dashboards, SOPs, and process maps for GFS processes.

Automate recurring financial reports using tools like Power BI, Excel Macros, and ServiceNow.

Report on GFS centralisation, optimisation, and improvement projects.
Analytics & Insights

Use BI tools to find insights that support financial planning and operational improvement.

Monitor and report on Service KPIs and journal testing (SOX RTR-2.6.1).

Analyse trends and control effectiveness to implement improvements.
Compliance & Governance

Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS), SOX, and internal policies.

Design and implement data controls to detect and prevent errors or inconsistencies.

Maintain documentation of data accounting procedures and workflows.
Change Management & Culture

Support adoption of improvements and change management.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability within GFS.
About you:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.

2 years of experience in accounting, finance, or data-related roles.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems.

Proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).

Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, Maconomy, SAP).

Familiarity with data warehousing and scripting (Python or R is a plus).

Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and data accuracy.

Ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
