About the Team:

Are you passionate about creating stunning visual effects in games? Insomniac Games is looking for a Technical Artist Intern with a strong interest in developing and optimizing shaders. This is a unique opportunity to learn the full process of shader development, from design to implementation, while ensuring high rendering performance for game environments and characters.

As an intern, you'll work alongside talented artists and programmers to bring creative solutions to life and contribute to our cutting-edge projects.

 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design and implement small-scale shaders to support content creators (Environment Art, Character Teams) in building game assets.
  • Collaborate with artists and programmers to create innovative solutions.
  • Maintain and update existing shaders for various game applications.
  • Debug and fix material graphs.
  • Document technical implementation details.
  • Develop sample content to test new workflows and tools.
  • Stay current with technological developments in the gaming industry.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field.
  • Projected to graduate by Spring 2026.
  • Proficient in shader programming languages like HLSL.
  • Experience with real-time rendering and graphics pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of 3D math and computer graphics algorithms.
  • Experience optimizing shaders for both performance and visual quality.
  • Familiarity with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug visual issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with artists and programmers.
  • Knowledge of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) and post-processing effects.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.

 

Eligibility:

  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 19th - August 8th or June 16th - September 5th.
  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.
  •  Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

 

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
