Head of Technology

Insomniac Games is looking for a Head of Technology. In this role, the Head of Technology is responsible for establishing, championing and maintaining a vision for technical excellence at the studio. They develop strategies to deliver on that vision, represent those strategies both internally and externally to the studio, and direct the studio's technology functions in their successful execution. They ensure that technology-related decision-making across departments and projects is sound and enables the studio to consistently deliver excellence, in budget, on time, and together. Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following:

  • Defines, socializes, and deploys the studio’s near- and long-term technology vision, strategy, and goals in alignment with the studio’s overall business and creative objectives.
  • Provides leadership for all technology departments, working in concert with department heads and project leaders to develop strategies to sustainably deliver excellence on multiple simultaneous projects while maintaining the well-being of the studio.
  • Creates a cohesive technology organization, ensuring that all engineering and information technology teams collaborate effectively and maintain a culture of ownership and innovation.
  • Manages and forecasts the technology budget, ensuring sufficient investment in the people, resources, tools and infrastructure necessary to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Develops plans for the implementation of software, hardware, and support for new gaming platforms and technology in partnership with department and project leaders.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to align strategy, policies, and procedures with the studio's overarching vision and mission.
  • Evangelizes and champions technical perspectives to inform and bolster senior leadership decision-making.
  • Represents the studio in external engagements and fosters strong, mutually beneficial relationships with PlayStation Studios, SIE, and other key partners.
  • Advises all technology-related decision-making across the studio – continuously anticipating and solving critical cross-departmental, cross-functional, creative, and technical challenges.
  • Remains up to date with competitors’ technical capabilities, and investigates forward-looking technology that improves the overall quality, efficiency, and efficacy of our projects and teams.
  • Oversees adherence to industry standards, data security policies, and legal regulations in its technical operations.
  • Ensures that all complaints and concerns related to inappropriate or unprofessional conduct in the workplace are addressed immediately to foster a safe work environment
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Duties: Accountable for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of combined Technology group, including direct management of Department Heads. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching, mentoring, and developing employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Leadership: Consistent track record of leading, growing, and managing high performing technical teams, including experience mentoring engineers.
  • Project Management: Solid experience in managing multiple projects and timelines, with a strong understanding of Agile or other game development methodologies.
  • Forward-thinking: Passion for staying ahead of technological trends in gaming, AI, real-time graphics, multiplayer systems, and computing.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical collaborators.
  • Technical Understanding: Ability to understand and reason about new and unfamiliar technical concepts owned by different areas of the business, often despite a lack of direct experience.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical team members, partners, leaders, and stake holders.

Computer Skills: Broad familiarity with game development workflows of varying types, engineering-focused and otherwise. Ability to analyze and diagnose issues as they’re occurring on computer systems. Ability to analyze a computer process for scalability and deployment.
