Manager, Gameplay Programming

Insomniac Games is looking for a Senior Lead Programmer to manage a team of 5-15 Gameplay Programmers working on an exciting AAA title. You will be responsible for leading player-facing feature delivery across our Hero, AI, Systems, and Player Experience teams. A great candidate will have a history of success supporting, mentoring, managing, and caring for the well-being of a programming team—ideally including previous experience managing other people managers. At Insomniac Games, we believe that “great ideas can come from anywhere” and look to our Gameplay leaders to work closely with Design partners to ensure we build compelling, high-quality experiences for our players.In this role, you will be expected to:
  • Lead a team of programmers to successfully ship a game
  • Contribute to the vision, architectural design, and planning for Insomniac's current and future gameplay systems
  • Provide technical and creative direction and feedback to your team
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluation, and career development support and opportunities for members of your team
  • Plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate your team's work
  • Work closely with other departments such as Design, Creative, and Project Management to provide technical, scheduling, and creative feedback on the game your team is supporting and to help develop project goals
  • Ensure a team schedule that meets project goals in a timely manner and is sustainable for team members
  • Participate in the hiring and onboarding of new employees
  • Collaborate with Insomniac studio leadership to support studio cultural values and foster a positive work environment
We are looking for:
  • Proven skill in people management
  • Experience managing an engineering team in the games space, including scheduling, scoping, and distributing technical work
  • The ability to provide vision and architecture for game systems
  • Strong game design sensibilities and interest in creating a great player experience
  • Strong skills in C++ and 3D math
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
Nice-to-haves:
  • Experience working on gameplay systems in AAA games
  • Previous engineering leadership position on one or more shipped games

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Base pay is one component of our total compensation package. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location, as well as additional compensation components, such as annual bonus, profit sharing, and other incentive plans.
