Engineering Manager
About Inspiren
Inspiren offers the most complete and connected ecosystem in senior living. Founded by Michael Wang, a former Green Beret turned cardiothoracic nurse, Inspiren proves that compassionate care and technology can coexist - bringing peace of mind to residents, families, and staff.
Our integrated platform connects smart hardware, embedded software, and cloud infrastructure to deliver real-time insights that improve safety, operational efficiency, and care outcomes across senior living communities.
About the role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Intelligence & Integrations team. This team sits at the intersection of our hardware ecosystem and our customers' operational reality, responsible for transforming the raw behavioral data captured by AUGi into the actionable insights that drive resident safety and operational efficiency.
You will lead the team responsible for Inspiren’s key platform capabilities, including our Intelligence product with an analytics engine powered by our Databricks lakehouse, as well as our critical EHR integrations. As we continue to expand our suite, you will be the anchor ensuring our Intelligence and Integrations systems scale reliably to meet the needs of communities nationwide.
This role is highly cross-functional: you’ll collaborate closely with Product to define the roadmap for our Intelligence dashboards, with Data Science to support internal modeling, and with Implementation teams to ensure seamless EHR interoperability.
We can count on you to…
- Own:
- Team health and delivery: You will manage, mentor, and hire for a high-performing team of engineers. You are responsible for their professional growth, performance management, and maintaining a culture of technical excellence and psychological safety.
- In partnership with your Product Manager, you will own your team’s Roadmap. You will be on the frontline of delivering functionality with high value outcomes that are keystones to Inspiren’s product.
- Teach:
- Operational Excellence: You will instill best practices for monitoring, alerting, and incident response, particularly for our serverless data pipelines and third-party integrations.
- Cross-Functional Translation: You will help your engineers understand the "why" behind the product, and help non-technical stakeholders understand the complexity of data synchronization and analytics.
- Improve:
- Integration Velocity: You will work with your team to streamline how we build and maintain integrations with external systems, reducing the friction of onboarding new customer communities.
About you
- 3+ years of Engineering Management experience, managing full-stack or backend-focused teams in a product-led environment.
- 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong background in data-intensive applications or distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of integrations: You have walked the walk on “the rule of three” and building and managing complex sets of integrations.
- User-Centric Leadership: You care deeply about the end-user experience, understanding that a dashboard is only as good as the speed and accuracy of the data behind it.
- Empathy and Values: You align with Inspiren’s "humanity first" approach. You are kind, thoughtful, and view management as a service to your team.
- AI Adoption: You actively use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code) as a core part of how you work. Your AI usage goes well beyond basic prompting and into automating tasks, long-running processes, and complex integrations.
Programming and Technical Skills:
While we don’t expect you to ship large amounts of code, you should be able to closely follow and contribute to technical discussions and decisions. Our tech stack:
- Familiarity with AWS ecosystems, specifically Lambda, API Gateway, and event-driven architectures (SQS/SNS).
- Ability to review and guide architecture in TypeScript and Node.js.
- Experience with PostgreSQL (RDS) and NoSQL patterns (DynamoDB).
- Sufficient knowledge of React to support a team building complex analytics dashboards.
Bonus points
- Experience with HL7, FHIR, or integrating with major EHR platforms
- Experience managing data pipelines that ingest high-frequency telemetry from hardware/IoT devices.
Details
- The annual salary for this role is $200,000-$230,000 + equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision)
- Flexible PTO
- Location: Remote, US or Canada. NYC preferred.
- Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability status.
