We are a team of 100+ people, representing 15+ nationalities, with offices in Colombia, Kenya, Morocco, Mauritius and the USA. Our team of practitioners has extensive development and government experience, including previous roles in international development banks, management consulting, national governments, multilateral agencies, INGOs and academia.
How you will make an impact
At Instiglio, you'll gain unique experience working at the intersection of the private, public, and social sectors to improve the effectiveness of development spending. As an Associate at Instiglio, you will gain expertise in a range of innovative approaches that support public institutions, funders and other development partners to improve their social and environmental impact across a range of sectors. In terms of sector expertise, Associates are generalist positions that provide an opportunity to work across sectors, exploring different topics including but not limited to education, health, climate, migration, workforce development, livelihoods, and water and sanitation.
Associates at Instiglio support project teams in guiding internal and external stakeholders through difficult, yet important, changes to their operations by translating complex concepts into understandable insights. As part of the Global team, you will join a strategically focused group of around 20 professionals from diverse backgrounds, spread across four continents, which have the objective of redefining development finance by supporting some of the largest actors in international development at transforming the way they deploy funding to maximize their impact. With a base in Washington D.C., you will likely work with multilateral development banks such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank and with bilateral agencies such as USAID and the Millenium Challenge Corporation. You will also work with non profit organizations and philanthropies with a presence in the US.
As part of the Global team, you will join a strategically focused group of around 20 professionals from diverse backgrounds, spread across four continents, which have the objective of redefining development finance by supporting some of the largest actors in international development at transforming the way they deploy funding to maximize their impact. With a base in Washington D.C., you will likely work with multilateral development banks such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank and with bilateral agencies such as USAID and the Millenium Challenge Corporation. You will also work with nonprofit organizations and philanthropies with a presence in the US. You will work closely with Partners and Associate Partners at Instiglio, and be supported by project teams based out of Washington DC and Colombia. You will be an ambassador for Instiglio’s mission and work globally.
You will play a crucial role in the execution of projects working in teams composed of a Project Lead, Project Manager(s), Senior Associates, and fellow Associates and Analysts. You will also get to develop and hone your people management skills by guiding Analysts and Interns working under you to deliver high-quality services.
Tasks may include:
- Participating in the preparation of proposals and client deliverables, such as PowerPoint presentations, publications and Excel analyses.
- Conducting literature reviews and preparing case studies to guide decision-making
- Developing and articulating technical components of RBF and performance management instruments in an accurate and easy-to-understand manner
- Describing and interpreting graphs, analyzing data and applying statistical concepts (e.g. mean, SD, regressions) to draw actionable insights/hypotheses.
- Proposing and structuring data analyses and testing hypotheses.
- Contributing to the execution of change management plans for stakeholders across sectors, and in the creation of proposals for clients, using clear communication.
- Supporting internal business development efforts by mapping donors and preparing pitch decks.
Who you are
- Experience:
- At least 1-3 years relevant experience in strategy consulting, international development, public policy or similar fields.
- Experience in data analysis and management.
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative research.
- Experience in performance management and results-based financing are an added advantage.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Economics, International Development, Statistics, Public Policy, Political Science, Business, Engineering or related fields.
A Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), Master of Public Administration (MPA), or other related Master’s programs are strongly preferred and considered an added advantage.
- Language skills:Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English. Proficiency in Spanish is an added advantage.

Joining Instiglio as an Associate will enable you to accelerate your career in international development, consulting and public service, playing a critical role in shaping and delivering impactful projects with leading development actors, with the guidance of more experienced senior staff. Instiglio has a strong feedback culture, with all staff receiving bi-annual formal, structured reviews, in addition to real-time feedback. Additionally, a mentorship system and development plans are in place to ensure that staff receive proper support in their professional development.
Working model and benefits
This opportunity is open to candidates with work authorization to work in the United States, and is based out of our Washington D.C., US office.
The position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately US$50,000 - US$60,000. Associates are eligible to receive a discretionary merit-based bonus of a maximum of 5 percent of annual pay. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
Instiglio has adopted a hybrid working model through which colleagues are expected to be in the office for a minimum of two days a week for face-to-face connections, in addition to in-person meetings with partners. We offer generous benefits, which include seven personal days, sixty remote workdays, travel and health insurance, a company-wide holiday between Christmas and New Year's in addition to vacation days, and parental leave, among others.
