HR Manager, India

India

Banking is being reimagined—and customers expect every interaction to be easy, personal, and instant

We are building a universal banking assistant that millions of U.S. consumers can use to transact across all financial institutions and, over time, autonomously drive their financial goals. Powered by our proprietary BankGPT platform, this assistant is positioned to displace age-old legacy systems within financial institutions and own the end-to-end CX stack, unlocking a $200B opportunity and potentially replacing multiple publicly traded companies

Ultimately, our mission is to drive financial well-being for millions of consumers.

With over two-thirds of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, 50% holding less than $500 in savings, and only 17% financially literate, we aim to put financial well-being on autopilot to help solve this problem.

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on HR Manager to manage core HR operations for our India team. This role is ideal for someone who has strong experience in payroll coordination, onboarding, offboarding, employee lifecycle management, HR compliance, documentation, and day-to-day HR operations.

This is not a traditional HR Business Partner-heavy role. The immediate need is for someone who can bring structure, accuracy, speed, and ownership to HR operations in India.

You will work closely with the global People team, leadership, Finance, Recruiting, and employees in India to ensure smooth employee experience and compliant HR processes.

What You’ll Own

HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle

  • Own end-to-end employee lifecycle operations for India employees.
  • Manage onboarding, joining formalities, documentation, background checks, employee record creation, and first-day readiness.
  • Own offboarding processes including exit documentation, asset coordination, clearance, final settlement inputs, and exit process tracking.
  • Maintain accurate employee data, HR records, letters, contracts, and personnel files.
  • Ensure HR processes are well-documented, repeatable, and scalable as the India team grows.

Payroll & Benefits Coordination

  • Coordinate monthly payroll inputs with Finance and external payroll partners.
  • Track attendance, leaves, salary changes, reimbursements, deductions, bonuses, and other payroll inputs.
  • Ensure payroll data is accurate, timely, and compliant.
  • Support benefits administration, insurance coordination, employee queries, and vendor follow-ups.
  • Partner with Finance to support audits, payroll reports, and statutory documentation.

Compliance & HR Governance

  • Ensure compliance with India employment laws, statutory requirements, labor law documentation, and internal HR policies.
  • Support PF, ESIC, gratuity, professional tax, Shops & Establishment, and other India HR compliance processes where applicable.
  • Maintain policy documents, HR templates, employee letters, and compliance records.
  • Work with external consultants/vendors where needed to ensure timely compliance.

Employee Support & HR Process Management

  • Act as the first point of contact for employee HR queries in India.
  • Support leave management, attendance, employee documentation, policy clarification, and HR process communication.
  • Help build a consistent employee experience as the company moves toward more in-office hiring in Bengaluru.
  • Support basic employee engagement and workplace coordination, while keeping the primary focus on HR operations.

Office & India People Operations Support

  • Support India office-readiness as future hiring moves toward a 5-day in-office model.
  • Coordinate with Admin, IT, Finance, and leadership for employee joining, seating, assets, access, and office-related HR processes.
  • Help create clean operating rhythms for HR operations in a fast-paced startup environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in HR Operations, People Operations, or HR Generalist roles with strong operations ownership.
  • Strong hands-on experience with payroll coordination, onboarding, off-boarding, employee lifecycle, HR documentation, and compliance.
  • Good understanding of India labor laws, statutory compliance, payroll inputs, and HR records management.
  • Experience working in a startup, SaaS, technology, fintech, AI, or fast-growth company is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, high-ownership environment with limited process overhead.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential employee information responsibly.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with employees, managers, Finance, Recruiting, and global People teams.
  • Ability to bring structure, follow-through, and process discipline without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Comfortable working from the Bengaluru office 5 days a week.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting HR operations for technology or product engineering teams.
  • Experience working with global teams, especially US-based People or Finance teams.
  • Experience with HRMS, ATS, payroll systems, employee databases, or HR automation tools.
  • Exposure to employee engagement, performance cycles, or HR policy implementation.
  • Experience helping a company transition from remote-first to office-based hiring.
