Cloud and IT Systems Administrator

Berkeley, CA

Position Summary

Reporting to the Event Services and Technology Director, the Cloud and IT Systems Administrator is the primary technical owner of the platforms that International House runs on. This is a hands-on role. You will administer the cloud and on-premises systems, build the automation that removes manual work from daily operations, and lead the technical projects that modernize how the building and the organization operate.

I-House runs a large system estate for an organization of its size, and much of it is integrated rather than standalone. A change in one platform is felt in several others. We are looking for someone who is comfortable owning that whole picture, who can hold the detail of an integration in their head, and who would rather fix a process at the source than keep correcting it afterwards.

You will work closely with various teams across the organization, including Admissions and Financial Aid, Accounting, Housing Operations, Dining, Facilities, Events, and Human Resources, and with counterparts at UC Berkeley and our external vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Systems administration and support

  • Administer the Microsoft 365 tenant and identity estate, including licensing, group and role management, single sign-on, conditional access, onboarding and offboarding.
  • Administer StarRez, the housing and residential management platform: account and operator provisioning, permissions, point of sale troubleshooting, reporting, and the payment integrations that sit behind it.
  • Administer Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge, including single sign-on, SKY API governance, workflow oversight, and notification management.
  • Own the administration and governance of the wider platform estate, which currently includes Freshservice, Verkada, Atrium, Infor, Quadient and Parcel Pending, Qualtrics, Adobe, Adobe Sign, Asana, Expensify, Amazon Business, OptiSigns, Clerk Chat, Meta Business, Apple Business Manager and NAVEX.
  • Own the IT service desk queue in Freshservice: triage, assignment, resolution, escalation, and the reporting that shows whether the queue is healthy.
  • Manage certificates, API keys, service accounts, and storage tokens on a defined lifecycle, so that nothing silently expires. Azure Blob storage and the shared access tokens behind the resident photo feed sit in this category.

Automation and process optimization

  • Design, build and maintain automation using Power Automate, including high volume operational runs and the flows that support admissions, finance, and housing.
  • Build and maintain API-driven integrations across StarRez, Quadient, Verkada, Qualtrics, Atrium, Infor, and the finance platforms.
  • Drive automation of the employee lifecycle, procurement and recurring operational processes, and reduce the number of tasks that depend on one person remembering to run them.
  • Instrument the integrations so that a failure is detected by monitoring rather than reported by a frustrated user.

Project management

  • Lead technical initiatives from scoping through to handover, including residence security system deployments, digital signage, archival storage redesign, internal podcast and media infrastructure, and network projects run jointly with UC Berkeley and external vendors.
  • Lead system modernization across cloud and on-premises technologies, including server and network infrastructure refreshes.
  • Write and maintain the documentation, runbooks and exported configuration that allow another person to operate a system you built.

Vendor, license and cost management

  • Manage the technical relationship with vendors, including renewals, license counts, support escalation, and contract-relevant technical requirements.
  • Review license usage against real need and make recommendations that reduce cost without reducing service.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of systems, owners, renewal dates, and dependencies.

Supervision and knowledge sharing

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to student workers and junior technical staff and review their work.
  • Share knowledge deliberately. No system at I-House should have exactly one person who understands it.

Other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Three or more years of hands-on systems administration in a cloud-first environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated administration of Microsoft 365 and a cloud identity platform, including single sign-on and access governance.
  • Demonstrated experience building automation and integrations, for example with Power Automate, REST APIs, webhooks or a comparable toolset.
  • Working knowledge of relational data concepts and the ability to read, query and reason about the data behind a business system.
  • Evidence of owning a technical project end to end, including the parts that are coordination rather than engineering.
  • Clear written communication. You will write for people who are not technical, and your documentation will outlive you in the role.
  • Sound judgement about access, privacy and data protection, and the discipline to apply least privilege by default.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with StarRez, Blackbaud, Verkada, Atrium, Qualtrics, Freshservice or comparable residential, security or fundraising platforms.
  • Experience with payment platforms and the integrations behind them, for example Stripe, TouchNet or a campus equivalent.
  • Experience in higher education, student housing, hospitality or a non-profit with a small technical team and a wide system estate.
  • Experience building reporting in Power BI or a comparable tool.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring student employees.

What Success Looks Like

  • In the first ninety days you know the estate, you own the service desk queue, and nothing critical depends on knowledge that exists only in one person’s head.
  • By six months the integrations are monitored, the credential and token lifecycle is on a calendar, and the recurring manual tasks that consume the team have been automated or retired.
  • By twelve months the technical roadmap is yours, the documentation is current, and a colleague can cover you for two weeks without the building noticing.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Pay range: $95,000 - $105,000
  • Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Benefits: I-House offers a robust and competitive benefits package for employees, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement contributions, paid time off, and professional development support. In addition, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, access to a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), commuter benefits, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Retirement: A 403(b) plan with a 5% matching and a 5% non-elective contribution.
  • Time-off: Paid vacation totaling 18 days of accrual in the first year (with accrual increasing after 5 years), paid sick time, 14 paid holidays, and generous family leave and accommodations.
  • Location: This role requires on-site presence and engagement with staff, leadership, and stakeholders. The role requires occasional work outside standard business hours during move-in, move-out, system cutovers, and incidents.
  • Physical Requirements: The role involves periodic physical work in the building, including access to servers, networks, and security equipment.
