Simulation Electrical Engineer III
Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth
Who We Are:
Eras of humanity can often be defined by a dominate transportation mode - horse drawn chariots, ocean going boats, or aircraft. These were spurred by a small group of people rigorously focused on building technology to achieve faster access to more of the world. We seek to usher in a new era of humanity defined by universal access to the whole globe free of borders and the presence of a routine way from space to Earth. To do this, we are building highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can loiter in orbit before precision landing back on Earth.
About the Role
As an Avionics Electrical Hardware Engineer at Inversion, you will develop custom electronics that enable testing, integration, and interface bridging across our Arc vehicle’s avionics and simulation environments. You will design PCBs that support signal conditioning, protocol translation, power distribution, and test harnessing. Your work will connect flight computers to sensors, actuators, flat-sat benches, and HITL systems.
What You'll Do
- Design and validate circuit boards for level shifting, signal conditioning, protocol bridging, and power interfacing
- Support testbed electronics used for flat-sat, HITL, and vehicle integration
- Collaborate with software, simulation, and systems engineers to develop robust hardware interfaces
- Own board bring-up, test procedures, and basic firmware or configuration tools where needed
- Assist with lab infrastructure, cable harnessing specs, and power system integration
- Troubleshoot mixed-signal issues across testbeds and flight vehicle environments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Typically 6+ years of experience designing mixed-signal PCBs in Altium, KiCAD, or similar
- Strong grasp of low-speed digital protocols (CAN, UART, RS-422/485, SPI, I2C)
- Experience with voltage translation, power filtering, and EMI-aware board layout
- Hands-on experience with lab test tools: oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, etc.
- Ability to collaborate across software, test, and integration teams
Desired Qualifications
- Experience developing interface hardware for hardware-in-the-loop or flat-sat test environments
- Familiarity with real-time compute platforms (NI, Speedgoat, dSPACE, or Linux RT) for testbench integration
- Exposure to system safety concepts and high-reliability design practices
- Experience in fast-paced hardware development environments such as aerospace, robotics, or automotive
