We are looking for our first Lab Manager. As a Lab Manager, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
Responsibilities:
- Capture and maintain the lab requirements, specifications, and documentation for installing and operating IonQ quantum computers
- Manage lab equipment maintenance and testing schedule, maintain inventory of lab consumables and spare parts, and coordinate with outside contractors as needed
- Develop and own lab space plans based on input from the technical teams and coordination with the Facilities Team.
- Design and own lab space floorplans and present to executives when needed.
- Partner with the Facilities Team to meet service level objectives, including 24/7 on call and day-to-day management of lab spaces.
- Investigate accidents, create incident reports, and develop plans to prevent similar accidents.
- Coordinate with the technical team to proactively upgrade lab space as necessary to support new requirements; own change control for resulting documentation.
- Support cross-functionally the decommissioning of systems.
- Create, maintain, and enforce lab policies.
- Benchmark, monitor, and improve lab environment.
- Manage and track lab equipment and partner with Facilities and EHS Teams for calibration.
- Partner with Facilities, Marketing, and Technical Teams for lab tours.
- Consolidate and provide input for future lab space requirements as part of AOP.
You’d be a good fit with:
- 8+ years experience managing cutting edge optics, laser, or chip lab and/or cleanroom environments
- 5+ years experience managing contractors or maintenance workers
- Training in 5S
- Passion for organization and cleanliness
You’d be a great fit with:
- Experience in working with facilities for specialized equipment, such as central offices for telecom equipment, data centers, or high performance computing systems.
- Experience developing safety policies according to OHS and HSE guidelines.
- A love of building and fixing things
Location: This role is based onsite at our facility in College Park, MD or Bothell, WA (College Park, MD is preferred).
Travel: Starting with <50% to get up to speed and familiar with all the lab spaces, but decreasing to ~25% travel normally

The approximate base salary range for this position is $123,191 - $161,289. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
