The Role:

We are looking for a highly capable and independent Product Manager to help define the future of organizational effectiveness through the use of AI. As a member of the product organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computing solutions to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role, you would be responsible (in collaboration with the engineering team) for defining, designing, building, and scaling a company-wide AI-based knowledge management platform that would help solve a set of highly impactful use cases that limit the company’s growth due to knowledge and information flow. You would start with a few narrow areas and expand the solution gradually, managing a roadmap in support of both internal and external needs.

This is a service design role where you get to define the end-to-end experience: who uses it, how they use it, what workflows it replaces or augments, and whether adoption translates into measurable organizational and business impact. The platform only succeeds if the people using it change how they work.

Product Management in quantum computing is no different from any other field, with the exciting difference that you get to be among the first people in history ever to build it. Quantum computers and quantum applications rely on cutting-edge technologies across diverse engineering disciplines, including Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, data analysis, and a hybrid execution model that relies on both quantum computers and classical computing resources such as High-Performance Computing. Having interest and experience in these fields will serve you well at IonQ, but we don’t expect you to be an expert in any of them.

You mostly need to demonstrate intellectual curiosity, work well with highly specialized experts, bring in your expertise in knowledge management systems, and manage a coherent point of view of what’s important to our internal users and how we might build a thriving company highly effective at building products and winning business.

This is a unique opportunity to significantly impact IonQ’s market success and drive the broader quantum computing industry as it transitions from a vision into reality.

Responsibilities:

  • Own Product Strategy and Roadmap
    • Define the product vision and roadmap for IonQ’s internal AI knowledge platform, collaborating with stakeholders to identify the most impactful use cases.
    • Establish and maintain clear product goals, requirements, and success metrics, making explicit architectural and scope decisions early.
    • Continuously audit assumptions and re-evaluate roadmap priorities as organizational usage patterns and AI tooling evolve.
  • Collaborate on Technical Design and Execution
    • Lead the custom development of the knowledge gathering and retrieval system, working with engineering and data owners on pipelines, metadata, and retrieval tuning.
    • Define the set of tools for populating and maintaining this knowledge system, specifying what the system and tools should do and the value they deliver.
    • Evaluate and define the front-end interaction layer for less-technical users.
    • Maintain working awareness of the AI tooling landscape to inform development decisions.
  • Drive Knowledge Architecture and Data Governance
    • Partner with functional owners to identify, classify, and prioritize knowledge sources.
    • Define and enforce a data governance framework (ownership, updates, staleness, conflict resolution, etc.).
    • Drive the design of the information architecture for scalable retrieval quality.
    • Partner with Infrastructure, Legal, and Security teams to build safeguards for data security and responsible AI usage.
  • Steer Internal Usage and Satisfaction
    • Run structured discovery sessions with internal teams to identify knowledge gaps and build the first version around actual workflows.
    • Design the system for high business impact from day one, accounting for different interaction models for various user personas (e.g., GTM vs. engineers).
    • Own the internal launch end-to-end, including training, onboarding, documentation, and change management.
    • Define what ‘working’ looks like before shipping, measure adoption and usage quality, and own the organizational change process.
  • Manage Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Serve as the connective tissue between engineering, Applications Development, GTM, and all other stakeholders, translating needs into clear requirements.
    • Proactively communicate progress, roadmap status, blockers, and changes in writing to all affected stakeholders.
    • Work with the Product team and CPO to ensure this initiative stays aligned with IonQ’s broader strategy.

Requirements:

  • 13+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Have prior experience building AI systems that manage complex knowledge.
  • Have a track record in building and shipping internal tools that teams use daily.
  • Are comfortable with knowledge management, document retrieval, or search infrastructure, and understand Generative AI architectures well enough to hold substantive technical conversations with engineers.
  • Are capable of organizing requirements and priorities despite ambiguity, driving results, and forming plans for validating product ideas.
  • Enjoy and have practice collaborating with multiple business, research, and engineering teams to drive concrete results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have built persona frameworks and service blueprints that directly shaped product requirements and interaction design.
  • Have owned change management tied to a product rollout and can demonstrate adoption with behavioral data.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $192,979 - $252,659. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity.  Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Our benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401K, unlimited PTO and paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend.  Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
