Performance Engineering
The Performance Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operational performance of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage assets across the company’s operating portfolio. This role focuses on performance analytics, asset optimization, and technical issue resolution to maximize availability, reliability, and long-term asset value.
The position partners closely with Site Operations, Compliance, Trading, Asset Management, and third-party O&M providers to drive performance improvements and implement data-driven solutions. While market knowledge is valuable, the primary focus of this role is technical performance engineering and asset optimization.
Team Overview
The Performance Engineering team is responsible for monitoring and optimizing the operational performance of IPX Power’s growing portfolio of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage assets. The team works closely with Asset Management, Site Operations, Trading, and third-party O&M providers to analyze performance data, investigate underperformance events, and develop technical solutions that improve asset availability, reliability, and energy production across the fleet. As the portfolio continues to scale, the team plays an important role in building performance analytics tools, supporting root cause analysis, and helping establish best practices for performance monitoring and continuous improvement across the platform.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Monitor and analyze real-time and historical performance data for solar PV and BESS assets to identify underperformance trends.
- Develop actionable remediation plans to improve availability, generation, and operational efficiency.
- Create and enhance Python-based tools to automate performance analysis and reporting.
- Establish and standardize best practices for performance monitoring, KPI tracking, and reporting across the portfolio.
- Provide periodic updates to Operations, Asset Management, Trading, and executive stakeholders on asset performance and risk exposure.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis efforts in coordination with site teams and technical experts.
- Track high-priority issues through resolution, ensuring accountability and timely corrective action.
- Support site operations teams and O&M providers in troubleshooting performance issues.
- Collaborate on performance modeling updates and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field.
- 1-3 years of experience in performance engineering, plant engineering, or utility-scale renewable operations.
- Strong understanding of solar PV and/or BESS system performance and degradation drivers.
- Proficiency with performance modeling tools such as PVsyst and PlantPredict.
- Working knowledge of Python and data analysis techniques.
- Ability to interpret electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Technical understanding of SCADA systems, monitoring platforms, DC and AC systems.
- Experience analyzing equipment performance and identifying optimization opportunities.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and diagnostic skills.
- Effective communicator with ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Experience supporting assets in ISO markets (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP) preferred but not required.
