What You'll Do
IronArch Technology is seeking a .NET API Developer to support a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) program that runs an enterprise API Management platform in Microsoft Azure. The platform and its APIs connect VA's Microsoft Dynamics 365 applications to the systems around them, so the APIs you build carry real VA business processes.
This is a hands-on engineering role on an Agile team, for a developer who is strong in .NET and comfortable working in Azure. You will own your work from development through testing, release, and production support.
Responsibilities
API Development
- Design, develop, and maintain APIs in C# and .NET on Azure.
- Build and maintain API definitions, policies, and integrations on Azure API Management.
- Write scripts and tooling that support development, deployment, and operations.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for APIs, integrations, and processes.
Quality & Production Support
- Write unit and integration tests alongside production code.
- Work with testers to reproduce, fix, and verify defects found in testing.
- Troubleshoot production defects through to root cause and resolution.
- Monitor API performance and reliability, and make improvements as services evolve.
Agile Delivery
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Report clearly on the progress and status of development work.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience developing APIs and services.
- Advanced skills in C#, .NET / .NET Core, and ASP.NET Core Web API.
- Advanced skills in RESTful API design, including versioning, error handling, JSON, and OAuth.
- Experience with Azure cloud architecture and integration services, including Azure API Management, Azure Functions, App Services, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Scripting experience with PowerShell or Azure CLI.
- Unit and integration testing with xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest.
- Git-based source control with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with Agile development methods and release management processes.
- Experience working with government clients or in highly regulated environments.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Comfortable using AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot as a working tool for code generation, refactoring, test writing, and documentation.
- Able to set an example for the team on where AI tools help and where they do not.
Preferred Experience
- Integrating with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse, or the Dynamics Web API.
- Running APIs on Azure API Management in production.
- Infrastructure as code (ARM, Bicep, or Terraform).
- Supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or other Federal agencies, especially in a complex multi-vendor program.
- Microsoft Azure certifications (for example, Azure Developer Associate).
Clearance Requirements
- Candidates with active VA PIV credentials or an active Public Trust are strongly preferred to support accelerated onboarding.
