IronMountain Solutions is seeking a dynamic and experienced LRSO Engineering Lead to oversee a multidisciplinary team supporting the overhaul, repair, and production of aircraft systems and components for an upcoming LRSO effort in Huntsville, AL. This leadership role requires broad technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, structural, and quality engineering disciplines, along with strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
As the LRSO Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting operational execution, and fostering collaboration across engineering, maintenance, and quality teams in a fast-paced aviation environment.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Education and General Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace or related engineering field is required and at least fifteen (15) years of relevant experience with emphasis on evaluation, repair, modification, or production support of aviation platforms.
- Broad knowledge of aircraft systems, wiring, structural repairs, and quality assurance in production and/or MRO environments.
- Working knowledge of aviation regulatory standards and documentation (FARs, SRMs, AMMs, IPCs, OEM technical data).
- Familiarity with CAD and PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks, Windchill, etc).
- Experience in environments governed by AS9100 and ISO 9001.
- Advanced degree or professional certifications preferred (e.g., PMP, ASQ CQE, FAA DER, Six Sigma).
- Experience supporting modifications, STC development, or integration of new systems into existing aircraft.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or APQP processes.
- Previous experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and make engineering decisions under tight deadlines.

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day leadership for a team of mechanical, electrical, structural, and quality engineers supporting aircraft production and MRO activities.
- Serve as the primary engineering authority for all technical issues related to airframe systems, electrical harnesses, structural repairs, and quality investigations.
- Guide engineering decisions related to repair development, modifications, non-conformance dispositions, tooling, testing, and integration.
- Lead technical reviews for repair instructions, engineering orders (EOs), rework plans, and root cause/corrective action reports.
- Oversee engineering responses to production issues including design discrepancies, manufacturability concerns, and supplier deviations.
- Ensure all engineering work is compliant with AS9100.
- Support audits, investigations, and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to quality management systems (QMS) and internal standards.
- Act as the engineering liaison between internal departments including Planning, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain.
- Interface directly with OEMs, suppliers, and customers to resolve technical issues and coordinate engineering support.
- Champion cross-disciplinary collaboration to optimize repair turn-times, maintain configuration control, and improve process flow.
- Supervise and mentor a team of engineers, providing guidance, performance feedback, and technical coaching.
- Identify staffing needs, support hiring efforts, and oversee onboarding and training for engineering team members.
- Drive a culture of accountability, technical rigor, and continuous improvement across the engineering function.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Clearance Requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required. Per federal requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this level of clearance.
